Dal Sharp, a 1978 graduate of Boerne High School, has been
named Player of the Week at Sul Ross University for his
outstanding play against Tarelton State. Dal made 14 unassisted
tackles and 5 assisted tackles in the game against the Tarleton
team. This is an outstanding effort, and Dal is justly deserving of
the honor he received.
Dal, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sharp of Boerne, is a
freshman at Sul Ross, and Coach Vernon Fewell is expecting great
things from Dal during his career at Sul Ross.

Cougars up to their goal line
late in the 4th with a drive that
fizzled at the Canyon 5 yard
line, and the Cougars’ punter
shanked one out on the Canyon
15 yard line, but again the
Hounds were penalized for
offsides, and the Cougars then
took an intentional safety to
bring the score to 6 to 4. The
clock ran out after the free kick
with the Hounds again
threatening.

remained at 6 to 6. It was on the
ensuing kickoff that Herrera
reversed his field and
scampered 80 yards to score a
touchdown that was rubbed out
by the clipping call.
The two teams played evenly
through the fourth quarter and
the Cougars threatened late in
the game when they inter-
cepted a Hound aerial at their
45 yard line. They moved to the
Boerne 6 yard line but a
determined dog defense led by
Dwayne Barker, held the
Cougars with only a minute left
on the clock. The Hounds then
tried to move the ball but were
halted by the clock. The
defense sparked with Barker
and Tal Gardenhire leading the
way. The Hounds’ QB Chris
Coryell looked good along with
Chris Herrera and Ray Ortega.
The frosh will try to get back
on track this Thursday as they
take on Burnet at 5:30 at
Greyhound Stadium.
