I PHOENIX, Ariz., Dec. 13. —
Counsel for Winnie Ruth Judd
prepared a last-ditch fght today
to Bve her from the gallows to
which she was doomed late yes-
terday by actfon of the Arizona
State* Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court, sustaining
the verdict of • trial egurt jury,
ruled that the stoical "blond ti-
gress" must die Feb. 17 for the
murder of her friend, Agnes Ann
Lerol. Altho also accused of kill-
ing Miss Hedvig Samuelson and
shipping both dismembered bod-
ies to Los Angeles In her luggage,
Mrs. Judd was tried only on the
charge of slaying the Phoenix
nurse.
News of the high court’s action
reached her late last night in her
small, gloomy cell in Florence
state prison where the court
ruled she must be hanged. It was
a dramatic scene when Warden
William Delbridge entered and
bowed to the doomed woman and
her parents, the Rev. W. J. Mc-
Kinnell and his wife, hovering so-
licitously near her.
Tift* warden delivered his mes-
sage briefly. Mrs. Judd stood as
tho stunned. Finally she spoke.
“Mr. Delbridge, I am no mur-
derer," she murmured. "I fought

I farm income “will be lower still.”
Farm Income Drops.
Gross farm income in 1929
amounted to 112, 000,000,000.
This year. It is estimated. It will
be around $5,000,000,000. Any
war debt, disarmament and world
economic recovery program that
sibled a mere 10 per cent to the
price of farm products at the
farm, therefore, would Increase
the farmers' purchasing power by
$500,000,000 a year, or more than
twice the present total annual war
debt installments.
With half a billion dollars a
year more to spend, the farmers’
demand for manufactured articles
would put 150,000 men back to
work. These workers, drawing
$300,000,000 pay a year, would
likewise spend their money for the
things they need and want, thus
putting" still more workers back
on the job.
Foreign Trade Drops.
The annual report of the Sec-
retary of Commerce 'published
last week recorded that our for-
eign trade up to June, 1932, had
“declined in value to the lowest
level since pre-war years.” From
some $10,000,000,000 in 1929, it
had fallen to $2,680,000,000, or
to about one-fourth.
"We desperately need a change
for the better* in world com-
merce,” former Assistant Secre-
tary of the Treasury Eliot Wads-
worth told Scripps-Howard news-
papers.
“It is claimed the war debts
are a great hardship to this im-
provement. If so, they should be
taken in hand promptly to try
and make them help, not hinder.
"One thing is sure. The U. S.,
as holder of these debts, has a
position of unusual . Influence
which can be used to block or
help progress. Ite we stand pat
on the debts as they are; if we
refuse to use our influence; then,

It was this plea of self-defense
