’NOUGH
On last Friday night “Conrad”
was ably presented at the opera
hall by our home talent, for the
benefit of our city cemetery.
The noble cause for which this
play was presented is worthy of
the highest commendation, and
our people showed their patriotic
spirit and appreciation by giving
them a large and attentive audi-
ence. The music was excellent
and well rendered, and all the
actors performed their part well.
They will appear again in the
near future with a new play, the
proceeds to go for the same pur-
pose.

bereaved parents, sisters and
brothers, our heart-felt sympa-
thies and commend them to ever
press onward and upward un-
til they reach that shining shore
where their and our loved one
will be waiting anxiously their
coming.
Notice.
Wednesday, May 15th, has
been selected as a day to work
the cemetery. Everybody should
try to be on hand and bring the
necessary tools to work with.

Notwithstanding the big rain
last week and the cold mornings
following, the tomato crop is
very flattering. There wili
doubtless be many thousand
dollars worth of tomatoes made
around Jacksonville this year.
This money will be turned loose
in a few weeks among our peo
pie. By the time the tomatoes
are marketed the fruit will come
in. The peach crop was never
more promising. Our people
will surely have a rich harvest
this year.
Found Dead iu Bed.
On last Tuesday morning when
the family of Rev. J. N. Smith
awoke they found that the angel
of death had entered their home
and born his noble spirit
from earth into the presence of
its Giver, who doeth all things
well. Bro. Smith was an Old
School Presbyterian minister
and spent many years of his life
in faithful, earnest and conscien-
4lous work for the cause of
Christ. In his death the com-
munity looses a valuable citizen
and the church one of its most
substantial pillars. He was 60
years old.
The whole community extend
-their sincere sympathy to the be-
reaved relatives in this their sad
hour of trouble.
