teen-months-old babe of Mr. and
Mrs. R. C. Menefee, died Tues
day morning and was laid to rest
in the city cemetery Wednesday
evening at 4 o’clock.

duties as Cot'on Belt agent. Mr.

Mathis.—The ten-months-old
babe of Mr. and Mrs. T. N.
Mathis died Monday night and
was carried to Pritchett and
buried Tuesday.

These young parents have the
sympathy of the community in
their early bereavement.
Jim Holland of Tyler spent
Monday and Tuesday with his
parents here. Jim’s friends are
always glad to see him.

The Longview and Jackson-
ville base ball teams played here
Monday andTuesday. Monday’s
game resulted in a victory of 19
to 0 in favor of Jacksonville, and
Tuesday, 8 to 7 in favor of the
home team. Monday’s game
was not very interesting, as the
home team had the visitors at
their mercy throughout. Tues-
day a slow rain fell during the
game, but both teams did good
work and the absence of two of
Jacksonville’s best players
caused the score to be so close.
Prof. J. V. Trout has returned
from several weeks’ stay in
Minneapolis and other northern
cities.

Another Good Man gone.
Mr. J. S. Neal died at his home
9 miles from Jacksonville last
Friday evening, at the age of 76
years. He was one of Cherokee
county’s oldest and highly re-
spected citizens and was well
beloved in the community where
he lived. He was buried at
Gent Saturday, at 3 p. m. See
resolutions of respect from his
lodge in this issue.
