Tus GREAT ROtTE NORTH ano East.*—We
notice the arrival on Sunday morning, by Stage
from Brenham, of our genial, gentlemanly,
and much-respected friend, Major B. F. Long-
ley. He has represented in the South, for the
past fifteen years, those gigantic corporatione,
the “Illinois Central,” "Michigan Central,"
and “Great Western Railway,” of Canada,
and each spring finds him paying his respects
to the citizens of our Stat as far west as San
Antonio, that he may make known to all, the
advantages to lie gained by taking tickets
over his route. Ou this route, there is but one
change of cars from Cairo to Niagara Falls or
New York, ’rhe silver palace cars of the Pull-
man Company, with all their luxury, und. con-
veniences, are used in all passenger trains;
and we do not hesitate to say that for sped,
comfort and safety, this route is not equalled
by any on the continent. The Major will re-
main here but a couple of days, and then go
on to San Antonio- Those contemplating a
" trip North are referred to advertisement in
another column.
