COLLEGEPORT. Texas, Mar. 19.—
Announcements were posted about the
first of last week calling an election
of school trustees in the Bay View
school district. Retiring trustees an-
nounced by John Evans, chairman of
the school board. are Mrs. Agnes Lig-
gett, Emmitt Chiles, Homer F. Goff
and Roy Nelson. Commission at large
is also to be elected.
"Only one candidate to fill a posi-
tion on the school board has announc-
ed.” Mr. Evans said. "I received a
letter from Mrs. Carl Hoeker, this
week, announcing that she would be
a candidate. I have no special au-
thority, to announce candidates, but I
think her candidacy should be made
public."
Mr. Evans said "Mrs. Hoeker did not
announce her plattorm, wnich is usu-
ally done when a candidate an-
nounces him or herself. I think she
is to be commended for having the
courage to ask to be elected. I pre-
sume she will announce her platform
later."
Some questions have arisen over
the reason for the terminal ion of Mr.
Goff’s term of office. Mr. Evans ex-
plained that he had been appointed to
serve the unexpired term of Mr. Thos.
McNeill, who resigned from the beard
early in the present school year. Ap-
pointed positions are held only until
election. They are made by the coun-
ty board.
F. L. Jenkins, one of the most suc-
cessful farmers in this section, a
planter of corn and cotton, has re-
cently extended his real estate hold-
ings and will develop a 160-acre raw
land farm in Frio County, 11 miles
west of Dilley and about 71 miles
southwest of San Antonio.
Mr. Jenkins farm here will be turn-
ed over to the management of Joe
Frank Jenkins a son, Austin Jen-
kins will go with his father to Frio
County where he will aid in clearing
and preparing land for a crop.
It is due to his inability physically
to adjust himself to the low altitude
here, he is branching out in another
county. Mr. Jenkins is looking for
a little higher altitude. At first he
thought of locating on the Cap Rock
near Lubbock but that was too high.
He says he never felt better t an
while on his last trip to Frio County.
Mr. Jenkins came back highly en-
thusiastic about Hegari, a new feed
crop that is proving so highly suc-
cessful in the coast section. He says
that it saved much of the Southwest
Texas section last year.
Artesian water has been discovered
at about 675 feet in the section Mr
Jenkins has purchased land in. Mr.
Jenkins paid for his land the first
three years he farmed at Collegeport

ing to Easter and Easter festivities
An Easter egg roll is planned. A rag-

the more serious business of the con-
ference was suspended and a social
hour enjoyed.
Wednesday's luncheon, also given at
the parish house, was another of the
hospitalities arranged by the hostess
city for her visitors and this was a
compliment from the local parent-
teacher association.

delegates as they came in fleets of
automobiles through the town. The
Texas Gulf Sulphur Company's plant
was inspected with Interest by the
visitors, while they halted for a few
minutes to confer with the child wel-

At Matagorda a fish food banquet
was served the guests in the Odd Fel-
lows hull, after which short speeches
of greeting from Matagorda people
and responses by Hay City P.T. A.
lenders and some of the out-of-town
guests enlivened the evening. Miss
Amanda Stoltzfus, of Austin, lovingly
known as the "Play Lady of Texas,”
led the games and stunts, among
which one of the most entertaining
was the short bit of dialogue in merry
food, staged by the “Play Lady" and

membership chairman of the state or-
ganization, called hy themselves "The

Leaving Matagorda the delegation
returned to Bay City in time for the
evening session at the Methodist
Church. The address of the evening
was that of Mrs. Edna Fox, field rep-
resentative of the American Social
Hygiene Association f New York.
