A 76th District Court jury
found Curtis Williams, Mount
Pleasant Nezro on trial for mur-
der, guilty cf the lesser offense
of aggravated assault Wednes-
day afternoon and set his punish-
ment at two years in county jail
and a $1000 fine.
The all-white jury, composed
of 11 men and one woman, went
into deliberations at 4:45 p.m.
and returned their verdict at 6
p.m.
Williams was charged with the
--Feb. 3 slaying of a.Negro wom-
an, Ruby Lee Thomas.
He admitted stabbing the
woman with a butcher knife.
But a physician testified that
a blow on the back of the head
where the woman’s skull was
crushed, caused death, not the
stab wounds.
The prosecution was unable to
show evidence of any instru-
ment which might have been
the weapon causing the head
wound..

This young lady's fetching headgear
represents part of ONE BILLION DOL-
LARS nationally electric cooperative
members will spend this year for appli-
ance and other electric equipment. 2
in Texas, a staggering total of ONE
HUNDRED MILL ION DOLLARS will be
spent for the same purpose.
‘•In the 6 county area served by Bowie-
Casa Electric Cooperative these purchases
will add up to more than $2,000,000.
Who made these purchases possible? .
Rural people who had no electricity,
borrowed money at interest and built the
Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative thus
creating a portion of this fabulous appli-
ance market.
Most anyone can tell you why Bowie-
Cass has been good for its member-
owners.
But the Main Street Merchant can give
, you ONE BILLION REASONS why the
electric cooperative has been good for
everybody.
