Our fountsiu has been started for the season and the gen-
lie "rizz‘‘ of our lively soda is a musical sound to those
who have enjoyed the delicious drinks we serve. We can’t
say our soda is any better this year tnan last—it s hard
to improve on perfection—but we do know that we shall
use the purest and finest materials that money can buy.
and shall omit no efiort that might make these delightful
beverages more delicious still.
Heavy rains have fallen in
most parts of the county again

Our efficient postmaster, Thos.
L. Ball, is certainly to be con-
gratulated upon having secured
the services of such a valuable
assistant in his work as Miss
McCrary. Miss Nelle thorough-
ly understands the business, hav-
ing had several yeans of exper-
ience in such work., No postof-
fice in this part of the state has
better service than Decatur and
the hundreds of patrons are un-
stinted in their praise for Post-
master Ball and his efficient as-
sistant, Miss McCrary.

The Crops.
Mr. J. D. White, living north
of town, is no doubt the best in-
formed man in the county con-
cerning the crop conditions of
the county. He was seen Satur-
day by a representative of this
' paper and stated that his infor-
mation led him to believe that
the cotton reduction for the en
tire county is approximately 25
| per cent He derives this con-
I elusion from several sources,
I first from reports made directly
to him by reliable men in all
parts of the county, and next
from the increase in acreage of
other crops and the small amount
of new land put in cultivation.
He says the wheat and corn acre-
age is very materially increased,
the latter as much as ten per
cent, and that the new land put
। in cultivation is so small as to
hardly need to be taken into con
sideration. The condition of

Chamberlain's Cough Remedy
the Very Best.
"I have been using Chamberlain’s
Cough Remedy and want to say it is
the very best cough medicine I have
ever taken,” says Geo. L. Chubb, a
merchant of Harlan, Mich. There is,
no question about it being the best
as it will cure a cough or cold in less
time than any other treatment. It
should always be kept in the house
ready for instant use, lor a cold can be
cured in much less time when prompt-
ly treated. For sale by City Drug

unusually good, though some
I kinds are late. He reports the
condition of wheat to be fully
1100, and says Wise county never
, had such a crop before. Corn
and cotton are doing well, though
backward. He reports the fruit
crops of all kinds as exceptional-
ly good—immense. in fact. So
it is seen that the outlook for
farmers at this time is particu-
larly encouraging.

Will A. Miller and family left
Monday for Amarillo, their fu-
ture home. Mr. Miller-has long
been prominently identified with
the business and public interests
of Decatur ahd his ever ready
public spirited interest in all en-
terprises calculated to upbuild
the town ana community will be
greatly missed. His son,Stuar,
who goes with him, has for years
been connected with him in bus-
iness and manifests the same
carefuk efficiency in business
matters that characterizes Mr.
Miller. The family has also been
prominent in social and church
circles and Hecatur, while re-
gretting their loss, commends
them to the good people of Ama
rillo.

All good men for the position.

There will be a Sunday school
picnic at the Valley View school
house, six miles west of Decatur,
on Saturday. May 27. A nice
program will be rendered. All
neighboring Sunday schools are
cordially invited to attend and
participate.
Some people might be under
the impression that the New
Store is clinging to the old prices
of Portwood & Cates, but it is
only people who have never vis-
ited the New Store since the
change. There is about as much
difference in their prices as there
is between daylight and dark.
Think of it! Twelve thousand
immigrants landed in New York
one day recently. If that rate
were kept up for a year it would
mean more than four million for-
eigners added to our population.
Great is the attraction of this
land of freedom for the oppress
ed of other lands.
Our neighboring city, Weath-
erford, secured the Knights of
Pythias Widows and Orphans
Home at the recent meeting at
Mineral Wells, and now her citi-
zens are wondering why they
should not reach out with simi-
lar unanimity and secure other
needed enterprises for their
town. No good reason for not
doing it, friends.
