Walt Disney Elementary held
their annual science fair recently
with over twenty-five judges from
local industries helping to judge
Judging science fairs in the district
is just one example of the
business/education partnership
programs in which local businesses
and industries participate.
Judges for the fair were David
Montemayor, Cindy Erndt. Phil
Spiller, Gary Middleton, Rick
Leggett and Liz Ross from Amoco
Chemical. Also Melissa Herdsy,
Bill Holden, Tony Flores and Greg
Goodnight from Monsanto. Bill
, Horine and Dick Graef from Alvin
Community College were also
judges for the event. OxyChem
employees Bobby Pierce, Mike
Wheatly, Mike Kennedy, Christina
Joaquin and Keith Hopkins also
served as judges. Science teacher
Donna Nesbit and former biology
teacher Sharon Meade also served
Mark Garrison, a technical designer
with Schlumberger and David
Kuntz, a lab analyst for Ethyl as
well as Butch Graham who is an
entrepreneur and inventor for
petrochemical piping dimensions
were also judges. Husband and wife
team John and Alice Janacek judged
as well
T he science fair was coordinated
by teacher Kem McCuller and
produced winners in eight different
categories.
The most outstanding fourth
grade project was by Brian Parson
Fourth grade winners in earth
science were Savannah Bradford 1st
place. Wendye Johnson-2nd place,
Todd Tolhurst and Robert Kelly 3rd
place and Trent Ward-honorable
mention Chemistry category
winners were Amanda Pena and
Kortnie Killough-2nd place The
life science winner was Amanda
Miller 2nd place. Physical science
winners were Alan Gibson 1st place
and Joseph Perryman and Kimberly
Lostracco-3rd place.
The most outstanding fifth grade-
winner was Matt Kuntz Life

Amanda McCord and Kaysie Gray- Julie Burkhalter-1 st place and
2nd place, and Derek French, Morgan Meyer 2nd place. The
Elizabeth Gonzales and Michelle history category winner was Brandi
mirtey-3rd place. Michael Adams Fleming-2nd place
