BOTTOMS
God looked around his garden and
' He found an empty place: ""
He then looked down upon this
earth, and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and
lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful.
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw that the road was getting
rough, and the hills are hard to
climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids,
and whispered “Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

A program to help laid-off-
workers get back to work has
opened across the street from San
Jacinto College South. This dislo-
cated worker program, sponsored by
SER, Jobs for Progress, is free to
anyone who has been terminated or
laid off.
The SER Career Service Center,
located at 13630 Beamer, Suite
110, provides workshops in career
planning and job search skills. The
workshops include how to find the
hidden job market, develop a
resume, reach the hiring authority
within a company, dress appro-
priately for an interview, control
the interview and negotiate an
acceptable salary.
The career center also provides
career counseling, networking
opportunities, and a resource center
with access to reference materials,
and use of the phone roommessage
center, copier, postage, fax
machine, and computers to develop
resumes and cover letters. Training
and educational opportunities are
resident of Bowman reciting. Mass was held at
11 a.m., Sept. 19, at St. John the
also available for upgrading skills
in high demand career fields.
The program also offers services
to companies that are laying off
employees due to downsizing or
closure. SER, a non-profit organi-
zation, can meet on-site with
employers to assist with outplace-
ment services. The goal is .for indi-
viduals with professional, technical
or clerical backgrounds to find
employment in the shortest time
possible by using a positive and
structured approach.
Employers interested in recruiting
job-ready applicants are encouraged
to send vacancy notices to 13630
Beamer, Houston, TX 77089, or
call 922-4001.
All of these services are financed
though a Department of Labor, Job
Training Partnership Act contract
with Houston Galveston Area
Council, so there is no charge to
the individual or to the employer.
