The Allen Independent School
District Textbook Committee is cur-
rently in the process of evaluating
textbooks in preparation for adop-
tion of books for the 1990-91 school
year.
Textbooks are adopted typically
for use for six to eight years. In the
last year of that cycle, local districts
review books on the state commit-
tee’s approved list in preparation for
the next cycle.
The following subject areas are in
their last year of adoption:
■ Composition and Language,
grades 1-8.
■ Health, grades 4-8.
■ Life Management Skills, grades 7-
8.
■ Algebra I, II, grades 8-12.
■ Business Management and Own-
ership, grades 9-12.
■ Personal Finances, grades 9-12.
■ Comprehensive Home Ec. Ed.,
grades 9-12.
■ French I, II, III, grades 9-12.
■ Geometry, grades 9-12.
■ Trigonometry, grades 9-12.
■ Physiology and Anatomy, grades
9-12.
■ World History Studies, grades 9-
12.
■ English as a Second Language,

made to hold the day’s work. (Special photo)
Thursday
■ District: Third six weeks ends.
■ Ford: Girls basketball against De-
nison at home; boys basketball
against Denison there.
As we enter the year 1990, it will
* be extremely important for citizens
to seek understanding about public
school finance. Given the fact that
public education budgets and tax
rates in Allen are spiraling upward,
fueled by growth, unfunded state
mandates and a state funding system
that has been ruled as unconstitu-
tional, the future of Allen is at stake.
Lack of understanding or misunder-
standing of truth about fiscal issues
will only complicate an orderly pro-
