On all sides the reconciliation
between Theodore Roosevelt and
Elihu Root is hailed as evidence
that at least some of the men
who in 1912 were most influen-
tial in preventing the nomina-
tion of Mr. Roosevelt, are now
ready to assist in placing him in
nomination in 1916. They claim
that in four years there has been
a complete change in national
ccnditions and national issues.

sent home by auto, nobody who
has watched his own gasoline
bills double in the last ten
months, is willing to let the gas-
oline business alone, now that
the government has started to
investigate it.
’ Dealers are quick to give off-
hand excuses when you pay your
astonishingly big bills. You have
undoubtedly been told that the
increased use of autos, motor
boats, motor trucks, farm trac-
tors, is responsible for an enorm-
ous increase in the consumption
of gasoline.
And then there’s the war, the
usual handy excuse for an ad-
vance in the price of anything.
The United States exported in
1914 over 5,000,000 barrels of
gasoline, and in 1915 over 6,-
500,000, or nearly five and six
times as much as was exported
five years ago.

Villa’s age is unknown and has

have varied so that he has been
at times on the point of being
declared conqueror of Mexico.

Kansas already has a negro
colony founded thirty years ago.
It is a colony of ALL farmers,
who own their own land. Some
of them have really fine homes
and automobiles. It is said that
they are more progressive, more
frugal and better farmers than
many of the whites in adjoining
communities; therefore, it is
plain that they are also better
citizens.
The negroes are essentially
and naturally farmers. In tilling
the soil they add to the nation’s
wealth, help pay the cost of gov-
ernment, bear their part of the
burden of taxation every good
citizen should bear. They should
be happy.
