Texas City, May 21.—The West End

Various ideas are advanced the propo-
sition of an auto bus on a regular

members touching on business ques-
tions and the relation of the business
men, the citizenship and civic organi-
zations to the welfare and prosperity
of the town were made.
Thursday night the merchants held
a meeting at the city hall and talked
over the plan of operating an automo-
bile bus to be bought and operated by
■the merchants at a minimum fare.
The police officers have been called
in twice this week to kill dogs which

netted them several bumps. The first
encounter of a twelve-day stand on the
home grounds will take place at 3:30
tomorrow afternoon when the Crabs
open a three-time engagement against
the Wichita Falls Spudders. Following
Walter Salm’s aggregation of cellar
tenants will come Shreveport, Dallas
and Fort Worth. Three games will be
played with each team.
Galveston fandom will see a some-
what changed lineup in action against
the Spudqers tomorrow afternoon. The
addition of Horan and Wagner and
probably Silcott, will give the local
rooters a bunch of heavy 'sluggers to
watch. Both Horan and Wagner have
been with the team for several days,
and both are wielding the willow in
great fashion. The former is batting
way above five hundred. The chances
are good that Silcott will play his first
game in a Crab uniform tomorrow,
though not certain.
With Bittle, McDonald, Horan, Wag-
ner and Silcott, the Crabs have an
abundance of outfield material. Mana-
ger Ellam faces the same problem
which/confronted him at the beginning
of the season, that of selecting an out-
field from a wealth of fine
prospects. The present problem is
somewhat simplified by the boss being
familiar with the work of most of the
men.
The chief attraction of the league
tail-enders for the local fans will be in
the person of Danny Clark, ex-Pirate
second-sacker, thah which there is no
whicher in the circuit at the present
time as a key-stoner.
Monday will be ladles and children’s
day, the former paying war tax while
the youngsters are admitted free. The
club management has requested that
patrons have the exact war tax of 7
cents ready when they enter the park.
This afternoon the Crabs hook up
with the high-stepping Houston Buffs
in the neighboring city at 4 o’clock.
