Shouts of "Viva Humphrey”
were answered by chanting sup-
porters of Sen. Eugene McCar-
thy who shouted, "We want

Much of the demonstration

Another said "Chicanos Will

Brief notes: Anyone who has
lived through the hectic times of
getting one of their youngsters
married will appreciate the pre-
dicament confronting Frank
Pearce when one of his sons,
John, became a benedict. . . .
John, as his friends and oppon-
ents on the field know, is a rug-
ged 195-pound football player.
. . .His father is less rugged
and weighs possibly 145 or 150
pounds . But somehow in the
frenzied preparations for the
wedding, Johnny dressed first,
squeezed into his father’s suit
and departed. . .Frank came
along, discovered the oversize
suit remaining for him, but
since he had no immediate alter-
native, he put it on and rushed
frantically to the wedding site.
. . He arrived without time to
make a quick switch. . .So
Johnny remained "shrunk up"
and Frank carefully avoided
over-exposure.
More notes: Byron Williams,
who has done a lot of "retiring”
in his lifetime but still continues
very busy, drops an interesting
card from the Golden Gate area
in California. His varied careers
include a full-stint in the Navy
to reach retirement (plus some
recalls to duty), a few years as
manager of the Hopkins Coun-
ty Chamber of Commerce, serv-
ice as a former AAA office
manager; postmaster of Sulphur
Springs to mandatory retire-
ment age, and a cattleman now
after earlier serving as a cot-
ton picker and sweet potato
grower. . .“Here I am in this
crossroads of the world," Wil-
liams writes, "where I spent
many happy hours of boyhood.
. . The changes are fantastic,
but after all of these years I

see many familiar things and
places. Had a smooth flight out
(2 hours, 54 minutes). It didn’t
bother Mrs. Williams anymore
than shopping Piggy Wiggly. . .
Only disappointment, no green
stamps. . It is nice to have
boys in the right place. Hobbs
put us on the plane in Dallas
and Stan took us off here.”
