sipating. Only a few showers
continued. There also was a
band of light showers from near
Bowie, Mineral Wells and San
Saba—slowing moving eastward
and decreasing in intensity.
Thunderstorms banged por-
tions of the South Plains and
far West Texas with hail and
high winds during the night—
giving some points their first ap-
preciable rainfall since scant
January snows.
A severe thunderstorm warn-
ing to be in effect until 6 a.m.
over a 120-mile swath roughly
from Wichita Falls to Junction
has been lifted by the Weather
Bureau. But shower activity in
the general area expected to
continue into the morning.
Most of the state had balmy
weather on Sunday for the Me-
morial Day weekend and fore-
casts generally called for
partly cloudy and warm weather
through tomorrow.
An earlier severe alert from
Fort Stockton to Carlsbad, New
Mexico, expired with no vio-
lence having been reported i n
the area affected.
But heavy rains and rain
knocked out telephones at Dell
City and Sierra Blanca—last
night. High winds uprooted
some trees at El 'Paso.
Star Oilers - Red Sox
First Inning—The Oilers took
the lead in the initial frame
with two runs scored on two
Sox’s errors that gave David
Hodge and Rodney Rudd first
base. Hodge and Rudd scored
on error and two stolen bases.
But, their lead did not last long,
the Red Sox scored seven times
in the latter half of the inning.
Six singles by Jimmy Laza, Stev-
en Featherston, David Cave.
Ernie Garth, Michael Gibson,
and Tommy Pritchett and a big
triple by Terry Smith resulted
in the scored runs.
Jalinda Wilson, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Willis Wilson
of Garland, has announced the
arrival of a baby brother,
Michael Lynn Wilson, born at
1:04 Sunday at Ennis Muni-
cipal Hospital weighing 9
pounds 1 ounce. Grandparents
are Mrs. Mabel Wilson and M r.
and Mrs. Willie R. Minor. Great-
grandmothers are Mrs. Joe Wil-
lis of Ennis and Mrs. J. W. Min-
or. Bardwell.
To the East—a tornado was
reported between Amherst and
Sunday on the South Plains but
apparently it did not touch the
ground. A storm disrupted tele-
phone service at Earth—another
South Plains town.
Hail and rains of up to 2.3 in-
ches battered Levelland and
Whiteface with the first signifi-
cant rainfall in that a rea in
months. Water stood two feet
deep in portions of Levelland
last night.
Afternoon and evening
thunderstorms are forecast for
today in parts of West Texas
and in costal regions. Tempera-
