CHRISTMAS day in Mexico D. P.
Uis a quiet day. a sacred day,
observed for religious and family
gatherings, while New Year's Day
is welcomed in riotous revelry,
says Mrs. Dan W. Whitaker, who,
with Mr. Whitaker spent the hott-f
day season in Mexico’s capital.
So far into the night did the
new years eve cetebrations extend
that the. celebrants—tome of them
—were still on the streets in for-
mal evening attire when daybreak
came. The ringing of bells, blow-
ing of whistles and usual noise
marked 1938‘s arrival.
Mr. and Mrs. Whitaker were in
Mexico at the time of the earth-
quakes—but they didn’t notice
them.
The weather was gorgeous and
the trip to and from the capital
was delightful. A top coat was
needed only in the early morning
and evening hours. Dense clouds
