Put it There.
San Antonio will not fail of securing
that fair. Put that down. The commit-
tee of solicitation have not reached the
point that they had in prospect on Mon-
day. but they have determined not to
fail and assure the Light that they are
going to fight it out on this line if it takes
all summer. They think ami justly that
it would be a great detriment to this city
to undertake a second time to secure the
necessary funds and fail and they have
given up all thought of failure. The sub-
scription is slowly but surely climbing
up by small amount' if not large ones and
the amount will be rai'ed am! the fair
held. This is certain. The committee
treat this matter as Crockett did the coon
and the citizens may as well imitate the
coon first as well as hi't. and comedown.
The committee wiil work until their end
is accomplished. The sooner that end is
reached and the $25.0)0 I- bagged the bet-
kr for all parties.

A Burglar Who Had Lots of Time
to Look Around.
The burglar or burglars who entered
Mr. Joe Buerges's residence on Blum
street early yesterday morning was a
cheeky rascal and evidently had lots of
time and took tiling' easy. The bureau
drawers were taken out one by one and
overhauled and then (tiled in tiers on the
Hoof. The trunks Were relieved of ail
their contents which were separated
and placed on the floor. He visited the
kitchen and dining room looked into
the stove opened the oven racked among
t lie dishes looked into the safe got the
butter and ham out took a ease knife
from tlie drawer and cut the butter in
several places. He eVen felt under the
pillows and mattresses of tlie two beds
on one of w hich Mrs. Buerges wassleep-
ing and on the other a girl of 13. He felt
over them also and w hen they awakened
each thinking the other v.as at their bed-
side. he fled in In's stocking feet silently as
he had come.
This .ante rascal must have waited a
few moments and then entered the house
of. Mr. Joe Battaglia situated immedi-
ately back of the Bllerges house. At 3
o'clock Mrs Battaglia was awakened by
the mattress of tlie beil being gently rais
ed. She was only half aroused ami went
to sleep again. Tlie same thing again
awoke In l and she lav still. Then 'he
Helt a light touch over her face and over
her person. and sure that it was a rat
■tied to her husband that a rat was in tlie
bed. As he leaped from the bed his hand
• truck tlie burglar’'face but the fellow
led and could not be followed. He se-
•ured $“.75 from this house.

A COOL ONE
DISCIPLI S OF ST. HUBERT.
Our Sportsmen Have Secured An-
other Convention.
Mr. Simon Veith. one of the San An-
tonio delegates to the State S|>orlsmen’s
convention at Waco has returned and
says the convention accomplished a good
many tilings of interest and benefit to
sportsmen of this state.
Among other matters they raised $l»io
for the purpose of defraying tlie expenses
of a legislative committee to work tor tlie
remodeling of the game laws particularly
the law w hich now gives the burden of
proof to the violation of tliese laws now.
I>y holding that possession of game does
not necessarily show proof of guilt that
such game was illegally killed or trap-
ped. The sportsmen rightly think
tlie burden of proof should rest with
tlie state in this matter.
Tiie dose season law was not touched
only so far as the instructions to tlie com-
mittee to work to secure the passage of
the law to cover the entire state. Texas
is now settled well enough to have the
fish and game in every county protected
by the state.
In the tournament our shooters did not
take a back seat on making scores by any
means and they also secured the next
meetingof the convention tor San An-
tonio. It will be held here next May and
there will be more than 2<il) members
present. Simon says tlie other boys will
return tomorrow.
