River Yields Body of Child
as Curly Pal Awaits
His Home-coming.
By BESS CARROLL
A curly big dog in keeping a Jone-
some watch today over empty silent
rooms where the long afternoon
shadows are lengthening into twilight
—and night.
“Now. don’t you leave ’till I come
bark” said the curly big dog’s “lit-
tle bay blue” when he told him good-
bye.
And “little boy blue’’-hasn t come
back.
He will never come back —he is
dead.
DOG KEEPS FAITH.
Hut the faithful big dog. doesn’t
know that. And so he is still on
watch keeping the faith with the lit-
tle boy master he loved —sharing «
long lonesome vigil with the “little
boy blur” who is gone.
The Easter bells that rnng the re-
surnction so joyously are tolling for
death today as little playmates and a
grief-stricken mother and father
mourn tin* tragedy thnt turned the
gladness of Easter time into death for
little Conrad Gonzales —who was
drowned in the San Antonio river
Sunday while he looked for gay Eas-
ter eggs in the hl ne bonnets along the
river’s flower-decked bunks.
HI NTS EGGS.
Out on East Theo avenue little
Conrad is sleeping under the Easter
flowers that grew for bnnny’s nests.
He had gone tn church shining
and proud in his very best suit —he
had listened to the glad Eastern songs
that tell of triumph over death. There
had been “extry” things for dinner—-
it was a festival like Christmas. And
that morning there bad been gay sur
prises for Conrad and his little broth
era and sisters—nests bright with
things the bunny rabbit had left for
good little bovs and girls.
And then Conrad decided he would
go from bis home 120 Hawthorn*
avenue to a nl.Mivo's bouse on En*
Theo avenue to look for more Easter
Egg*—surely the Easter bunny had
made some scen t nests in the flowers
along the river!
RIVEK YIELDS BODY.
He was last seen in the rear ot
314 East Thro avenue. Conrad waited
So long to come home that his father.
Mariano Gonzalez grew uneasy.
