Instead of being filled with fear
and self doubt, we can learn to have
confidence in ourselves and in our
God who will fight our battles in life
Fear and selfdoubt are two things
which can bring a lot of unhappiness
to our lives And there is absolutely
no reason for this to be God doesn’t
want us to live in this kind of fear
and apprehension
Instead of walking around wishing
that you could be happier and
worried about the future, why not
begin 1987 with the right attitude
that will insure true happiness It
will give you more confidence in
yourself and also more confidence in
the future as a whole

uncertain times to find the security
that we so desperately desire9 We
must look to the One who controls
the future ours and that of our

that person is the Lord God in

But first we must be willing to put

must be His will and our thoughts

A new vear is beginning 1987!
And along with it comes a certain
amount of apprehension and even
fear
Right here in our own state of
Texas we are being hard hit by a
recession that was brought on by the
collapse of oil prices, putting tens of
thousands of people out of work This
also precipitated a fall in real estate
values and also put severe economic
strains on the banking industry
Unemployment has been rising
throughout the state this past year
and many businesses and individu-
als have had to file bankruptcy
tiecause they can't pay their bills
On the national scene, a lot of
distrust and uncertainty has
developed in our executive branch of
the government because of the
Iranian arms scandal Many
Americans have lost trust in
President Reagan and other high
officials because of this
Congress has also seemingly been
unable to find a solution to the
bulgeoning budget deficit that
threatens the entire economic
security of our nation The U.S
trade deficit with other nations also
< ontinues to grow larger which is
also not good for our nation
internationally, there are con
tinued threats of terrorists attacks
as well as wars in the Middle East
which could lead to a global conflict
The only thing that really seems
certain today is uncertainty And no
one seems to know which way things
are heading or w hat to do about it
Economists have been hard
pressed to predict the direction of
the economy over a 3 month period,
much less for a year or two Most
economists have been dead wrong
about the direction of interest rates,
the stock market or the economy as
a whole
Psychics also claim to be able to
predict the future, but their
accuracy in predicting isn't much
better than the average person on

depending upon economists, govern
ment officials or even psychics to
predict the future and provide us
with a small amount of security
Because we will then be allowing
God to provide us with peace and
security in the future
God. in His infinite wisdom, has
chosen not to reveal the future to His
children, other than on very rare
occasions
Although Mary was told she would
be the mother of Jesus, she was not
given this knowledge until just a
short time before the event took
place And even then the details
weren’t revealed to her
Many of the prophets foretold the
birth of the Saviour and other events
thousands of years before it actually
happened And even the end of this
age and the return of Jesus is
predicted but no one knows the time
when it will occur
The only thing that Christians
need to know about the future is that
it is totally in God's hands and that
everything will work out for the best
for us This is a promise that God
makes and this gives us a secure
future
W'e know that all things work
together for good to those who love
God ' < Romans 8 28 ’
So what more could anyone ask
for’’ This is much better than
knowing the scary details of the
future All we need to know is that
God will guide us through the

confidently step out in faith and
learn to use the talents that we have
been given, rather than sitting
around afraid to do anything or
wishing we could have a more
exciting life
Instead of always complaining
about our financial problems or our
aches and pains or other health
problems, we need to concentrate on
our many blessings Once we do this
we will find that most of our pains
and problems will soon disappear
We also need to realize that
problems don't necessarily have to
make us feel unhappy it is a matter
of attitude if we learn to accept
these things as a challenge we will
learn to overcome our problems with
the help of God rather than let them
get us down
Life will always have its share of
difficulties But we have the right to
choose to be loving, satisfied
healthy and happy
What we must learn to do is
concentrate our heart, mind and soul
on the positive and really good
things in life It means counting our
blessings It means being grateful
for what we have
if we can just learn how to feel
satisfied inside, then we will also
find that it takes much less to feel
satisfied outside Material posses
sions and sensual pleasures won t
seem nearly as important
in Galations 6 7 we read, “Be not
deceived God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man sows, that shall
he reap " If we learn to act happy we
will be happy If we give joy we will
receive joy
