The Lee County Chapter of the
Texas German Society will not meet
on the first Monday in June, but will
meet the fourth Monday in June on
June 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the First
National Bank Community Room
Following the meeting and the
program, German songs will be

Weimar officials have issued
warnings about the poisoning of
several dogs and cats on the south
side of the city.
One dog has been killed with
strychnine poison, according to
veterinarian William Rugeley.
In addition, several cats have been
poisoned with some kind of
causative substance such as lye
One resident reported that three
dogs of his had died within the last
few weeks.
The man, who lives on West Street,
said he found a dish containing some
food on the driveway and one of the
dogs a few feet away.
Rugeley said he sent the substance
to be tested and confirmed that the
substance that killed one of the dogs
was strychnine.
"It was intentional and malici-
ous,” Rugeley said
City Manager Frank Parks and
Rugeley said that several cats
appear to have been poisoned by a
different substance that causes
severe burns in the mouth of the
animal.
One of the cats is currently
undergoing treatment by Rugeley
and another died several weeks ago.
Parks said police are investi-
gating the incidents and that
criminal charges will be filed if the

3 Austin women
arrested in La Grange
on drug possession
Three Austin women have been
arrested in a routine traffic stop in
La Grange on U.S. 71 and charged
with possession of a controlled
substance.
The arresting officer said the
women were acting nervous and
he noticed a cigar box in the back
seat When they gave him permis-
sion to look inside, he said found a
white powder later allegedly
found to be cocaine.
Arrested and jailed were
Christie Love Johnson, 18, Sharon
Brown, 24, and Evette Johnson,
18, all of Austin.
A search later of the vehicle, by
officers allegedly turned up a
purse with approximately 11
ounces of cocaine in it.
In the 15 years he has been in
Weimar. Rugeley said, the cases are
the first of intentional poisoning that
he has come across.
“I'm also worried that the poison
is something that kids might
accidentally get into." Rugeley said
