Walter E. (Buddy) Matthijetz Jr.,
46, of Austin passed away Sunday,
May 30,1993.
Funeral services were held at 10
a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 1993 at
Mount Olive Lutheran Church with
Pastor Paul Meyer officiating.
Graveside services were scheduled
for 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2 at
Giddings City Cemetery in Giddings
Buddy was an active member of
Mount Olive Lutheran Church. He
had served as an Elder, vice
president of the congregation, and
served on numerous church commit-
tees.
He was the Executive Director of
the Texas State Board of Veterinary
Medical Examiners from 1991 until
present. Buddy was previously
employed by the Texas Department
of Mental Health and Mental
Retardation from 1970 until 1991.
He recieved an AA in Management
from Blinn College in Brenham in
1968, he earned a BBA in
Management from the University of
Texas in Austin, and a MPA in
Political Science from Southwest
Texas State University in San
Marcos.
Buddy is survived by his wife of
twenty-five years, Janet Matthijetz
of Austin; daughters, Kristen and
Karen Matthijetz of Austin; parents,
Walter and Clara Matthijetz of
Giddings; sisters and brothers-in-
law, Selma and Terry Davis and
Nancy and Douglas Alexander, both
of Giddings.
Harry Johnson, 69, of Austin and
Blue, Texas, died on Saturday, May
28,1993. He was born on June 30, 1923
in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Ethel
Wildeson Johnson and Clarence
Henry Johnson. He was married to
Jackie Lee Stearns on November 16.
1944.
A memorial service will be held in
Austin at Wilke-Amey-Clay Funeral
Home at 2620 S. Congress Ave., at 10
a.m. Thursday, June 3. Family and
friends from the Blue and Lexington
area will gather for a memorial
service at the Blue United Methodist
Church at 2 p.m. Thursday.
He was a member of Faith United
Methodist Church in Austin. Serving
with the 616th Artillery Battalion in
the 10th Mountain Division during
World War II, he received the
Bronze Medal for bravery for heroic
actions during the Italian campaign.
He was a member of the Armadillo
Chapter of the 10th Mountain
Division Association and the
National Association of the 10th
Mountain Division. He retired after
working for more than 25 years at
the University of Texas Applied
Research Laboratories and also
served with the U.S. Marshall's
Office. For many years, he was a
member of the Travis County
Sheriff’s Reserve Association, the
Travis County Sheriff's Posse, and
the Texas Sheriff's Association. He
also served as a board member of
the Travis County Sheriff’s Reserve
Association and the Travis County
Sheriff’s Posse.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie
Lee Johnson; seven children, John
Edward Johnson and James Lee
Johnson of Austin, Suzanne Kay
Koether of Bastrop, Linda Marie
Arnold and Jerry Charles Johnson of
Austin, Laurie Dea Blok of Blue and
Jenny Lu Jones of Austin and Blue;
Fenty-five grandchildren; three
ret grandchildren; and four
sisters, Helen Witmer of Angola,
Indiana, Betty Sgarlata of Orlando
Park, Illinois, Dorothy Ross of St.
Joe, Indiana, and Bernice Newer of
Fort Wayne, Indiana.
