AGGIES RUN PAST HORNS
•• The game of the weekend
turned out to be just another game
as the Texas A&M Aggies ran all
over the hapless Horns in a 34-10
humiliation in front of the third
largest crowd in Texas history.
Now if that doesn't sum up
Saturday's game for you, I don't
know what does. But in case it
doesn't, I have highlights to add.
So if you're a Longhorn, I would
probably stop reading now. But if
you are an Aggie, kick back and
enjoy!
Well to start things off, A&M
scored 14 quick points. The first
came on a 48-yard fumble return
for a touchdown by Brandon
Mitchell. As if that weren't
enough, Leeland McElroy re-
turned a kickoff 83 yards to set up
Rodney Thomas' second score of
the game.
To top things off, Texas quarter-
back James Brown rolled out of
the pocket only to be blindsided by
A&M's Armstrong. The ball
dropped right into Mitchell's
hands, who returned it 46 yards
for yet another A&M score.
The thing I liked about the end
of the game was that there wasn't
any taunting like two seasons ago.
Maybe the Texas A&M football
players have grown up a little, or
could it be that they don't really
have much to be celebrating about

BEATINGS CONTINUE -
How many times can the Oilers
take the pounding they have been
taking?
Well, it wasn't exactly a pound-
ing Sunday, but yes another loss.
The L.A. Raiders grabbed a 17-14
victory, but at least the Oilers took
them to overtime.
This game was just as boring as
the other Oiler games as Houston
scored their customary 14 points
or less.
On the other hand, the former
Houston quarterback Warren
Moon, who many thought was so
horrible, engineered a last second
comeback to lead Minnesota to a
21-20 victory over the Saints. That
just goes to show that if you lose a
leader, your entire program can go
to shambles.
But never fear, the 1-8 Oilers
just may have a chance to win this
Sunday against the now 1-8
Bengals. We'll just call this the
battle for the draft choice. Heck,
I'd probably be pretty tempted to
lose so that I could pick up a first
round draft choice next season.
I'll go with Houston this time,
but not by much — about 6 or 7
points - because that's all the Oil-
ers are capable of beating anybody
by.
BUFFS MOVE ON - The
Giddings Buffaloes advanced to
the playoffs as they came from be-
hind to beat Rockdale 21-14 Fri-
day night.
The Tigers clung to a 14-11 third
quarter lead before Charlie
Kriegel tied the game with a 31-
yard field goal.
Glen Roberson then broke the
14-14 tie with a 3-yard touchdown
run. This proved to be the game-
winning score and a trip to the
playoffs for the Buffs.
Now comes the real excitement!
The playoffs are finally here! And
the great thing about it is that
Giddings will be playing in them.
I don't really think that anyone
really expected Giddings to actu-
ally go to the playoffs this year,
but all of the young talent has
stepped up and raised a lot of eye-
brows.
It's going to be a tough opener for
the Buffs as they will face Llano,
who has just completed a perfect
10-1 season with a victory over
Dripping Springs.
It should be interesting to see
this one! The Buffs will be under-
dogs going into the game, but they
have plenty of weapons to pull the
upset. Good luck to the Buffaloes
in the playoffs and congratula-
tions on another super season!

The Giddings Independent
School system has received the
Academic Excellence Indicator
from the state.
Interim Superintendent Judy
Huffty said she will present the
report at the Giddings School
Board meeting on November 17,
but that the district was accred-
ited at each campus.
Dr. Huffty said the high school
campus was also recognized be-
cause of the large number of stu-
dents taking the ACT and SAT
college admission tests.
The Academic Excellence Indica-
tor System Report is the state re-
port card on a school district, said
Dr. Huffty. It contains data on
student performance at both dis-
trict and campus levels. The dis-
trict performance is compared to
COWBOYS ROLL - We have
one Texas team with a 8-1 record,
and another stuck at 1-8. Thank
goodness we have the Cowboys!
Speaking of Dallas, they ran
over the N.Y. Giants Monday
night by a score of 38-10. No sur-
prises here.
Just another day at the park for
the Cowboys. No challenge seems
too great for Dallas, right? Wrong.
Just when Dallas is cruising, they
have to run upon the 49ers. I smell
trouble in this one.
It's in Candlestick Park and that
is the worst place to play for visi-
tors. The 49ers will be ready and
I'm afraid that's bad news for the
Cowboys. Time for a reality check,
and I think Dallas will get one. —
