A,
In that case, I wish I hadn't
joined everyone else and
mowed my lawn. My grass
grows fast enough as it is, so
why speed it up.
With lots of moisture already
in the ground in most parts of
the county, all that's been
needed is several days of sun-
shine in a row and weather in
the 60s and 70s - and we're
starting to get just that.
Red bud trees are flowering
and so are pear trees, indicat-
ing that spring isn't far away. '
I've also seen some of the
early wildflowers blooming
here and there, so bluebonnets
and Indian paint brushes prob-
ably aren't too far behind.
What we don't need between
now and Easter is a cold snap
that produces a killer frost.
That would certainly hurt fruit

Ranchers can certainly use

Anyway, let's enjoy the

SHOULDERS CROSS --
For the past 10 years during
Holy Week, Bro. Mike Pierce
has been doing his part to
make everyone aware of the
true meaning of the Easter sea-
son.
He comes through Giddings
and Lee County carrying a
cross - the symbol of the cruci-
fixion.
Mike was in the office this
week to inform us that he will
some 2,000 years ago.
Mike certainly has to be in
good physical condition to carry
and pull a 100-pound wooden
cross over 150 miles.
Each year he stops off at his
home near Paige for a day or so
to observe Good Friday. And
this year he will also be cel-
ebrating his 49th birthday.
He's in mighty good shape for a
man his age. It takes lots of
muscle and stamina to do this
each year.
