When working hours are
over, and film stars set out to
play, you’ll find Jimmy in the
midst of the fun, with a blonde
on one arm, a brunette on the
other, and a redhead tagging
along behind.
“One at a time? Not me.”
You can try to figure it
out as you watch him in “The
Phantom President.”
Sleek-haired, perfectly ac-
coutred players, gathering
womanless and envious on the
other side of the room, glance
sadly at Jimmy’s none-too-care-
fully-pressed pants, none-too-
bushy locks, none - too - tiny
"schnozzle," and wonder how
come.
There he plays the role of a
medicine-show barker, pal of
Cohan, also a barker. But Cohan
plays another role, too—that of
a candidate for president ap-
parently equipped thoroughly
for the office, but lacking the
“poisonality” to win votes.
When politicians discover the
barker to be a dead ringer for
the candidate, they hire him to
pose as the candidate to round
up public support.
Aided by Jimmy, he goes to
it with gusto, and, until the ac-
tual candidate and he comes to
blows over Miss Colbert, all
seems to go smoothly. Then fol-
lows a dramatic and comic cli-
max that changes the entire
course of events.
