  • Content Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents a monologue with John Harrington. Harrington completed the V-12 Navy College Training Program and went on active duty in July of 1943. He completed Midshipman School in May of 1944. Beginning in June, he served aboard USS LCI(L)-981, making landings on Morotai in Indonesia and Leyte, Ormoc, Mindoro and Palawan in the Philippines. After the war, he traveled to China and transported 200 troops of the Chinese Nationalist Army to occupy Formosa (now Taiwan). Harrington served as the last skipper aboard the 981 and brought the ship to San Diego for decommission in January of 1946.
