Me Was Dviving Too
Fast in The Water
OXNARD, Calif. IP —
Consider the plight of Wen-,
dell White: The Harbor Pa,
trol says he wasn't driving
right.
White faces a probation
hearing April 7 after having
been convicted of driving his
car too fast in Channel Is-
land Harbor.
Patrolman William Barker
said White's amphibious ear
had entered the water from a
boat ramp and cruised along
at 8 miles an hour in a 5-mile-
an-hour speed zone.
But Barker couldn’t catch
the speedy craft. Other of-
ficers caught White on dry
land.
White also was convicted
Wednesday of violating a
county harbor ordinance by
driving down an unfinished
ramp and failing to stop for

The cancer rate in Thus
County was six times greater
than it was in Houston last
year, George Sandefur told I
the Lions Club Friday:
Sandefur, genera chair-
man of the 1965 Titus Coumty
Cancer Crusade campaign,
said there were 35 deaths
attributed to cancer in Titus
last year This compares with
285 out of the million-plus
population of Houston.
This unusual high incidence
of cancer has caused re-
search work to have been
started in Titus County and
other counties in the north-
east Texas areas by the
American Cancer ociety, he
said.
Sandefur spoke to the club
and showed a film. April will
be Cancer Crusade month.
The film dealt with colon-
rectum cancer which strikes
76,000 Americans each year,
more than any other type of
cancer. When it is found and
treated in time about three
out of four patients can be
saved
Further, according to the
film, a yearly complete;
health checkup, which in-
cludes a proctoscopic exami-
nation is the best insurance
against death from cancer
