CONGRATULATIONS to the 1956'
Graduates of Giddings High
School!
We join with our friends in Gid-
dings in saluting you on this happy
occasion and share with you your
happiness in your achievement of
a goal. We wish you success in
whatever paths you may choose
for the future.
Your graduation thrusts you in-
to a world which is waiting for
youthful ability, enthusiasm, and
confidence. We are sure that you
will meet this challenge with honor
to yourselves, to your families,
and to your community.
WEDNESDAY, MEMORIAL DAY,
the nation pauses to honor those
who served and died in its serv-
ice.
Established in 1869, the first
Memorial Day was intended to
honor those soldiers who died in
the Civil War, but today the pub-
lic looks to it as both a tribute
to the heroes of other wars and
today's soldier as well.
It is a solemn annual tribute
by Americans which the citizenry
of Giddings joins in for the sec-
organization and membership
drive has shown some gratifying
results so far with work not yet
completed.
About two-thirds of the present
members have been contacted and
informed of the new schedule of
contributions and most have a-
greed to go along with the cham-
ber in anticipation of the em-
ployment of a full-time manager.
As we pointed out last week in
this column, it will take the com-
bined efforts of all to put this
program across as all of us in
this area stand to benefit from
the program if put into effect.
It seems to us that a full-time
manager for the Chamber of Com-
merce is a necessity if this com-
munity and trade area is to con
tinue to be of service to the people
C. R Taylor, director of the

League Chorus, will be at Imman-
uel Lutheran Church in Gid-
dings, Saturday, May 26 at 8
p. m., to rehear <• for the opening
service of the LLL Convention in
San Antonio July 1
Mr. Taylor previously rehearsed
with the group in April and has
since been touring Texas to meet
and rehearse with the several^
groups which will comprise the
mass Chorus.
Mr Taylor hopes to enlist a
3,000 voice choir for the occasion.
He has asked that 150 voices from
this, area come together. If the
plan materializes@in its entirty it
will mean one, of the largest
chorus groups ever assembled will
participate in the opening service.
