students receive, they deserve
recognition for their efforts to

the exam as well as arranging the
tutoring effort. Those students who
take part in the contest will be
ton Independent School District,

they will be honored by the Insti-
tute for International Education.
Hosting the teenagers will be the
families of: David and Sherrye
Dantzker, David and Rochelle
Drath, Bette and Richard Pesikoff
and Ira and Mary Ann Wolinsky.

Enthusiasm is building for the
"Walk for Israel", Sunday, Apr. 5,
as volunteers are recruited for this
walk-a-thon to benefit Houston's
Project Renewal neighborhood,
Yoseftal. A route for the 10-kilom-
eter walk has been set with five
checkpoints along the way. Each
checkpoint will have refreshments
and first aid available.
As the walkers leave the Jewish
Community Center at 1 p.m. on
Apr. 5, they will proceed east along
the bayou to the Metro Park-&-
Ride station at Post Oak. Kerri
Bloom will chair activities at that
checkpoint. Those who opt for a
"mini-walk" can board buses at the
first checkpoint that will bring
them back to the JCC. The second
checkpoint, chaired by Henna Ta-
tham, will be at United Orthodox
Synagogues at Greenwillow and
South Braeswood.
From there, the walkers will pro-
ceed north to Congregation Beth
Yeshurun, the site of the third
checkpoint chaired by Joe Staller.
After hiking west on Beechnut, the
walkers will turn south on Rice,
heading to the fourth checkpoint
at the Meyerland Club. That check-
point, on the corner of Rice and
North Braeswood, will be chaired
by Susan Marblestone. The final
checkpoint at the JCC, chaired by
Robert Eigler, marks the end of
the walk.
Each walker is asked to sign up
sponsors to underwrite each ki-
lometer walked. Walkers can
sponsor each other, or they can
ask family, friends and neighbors
to participate as sponsors. Walk
sponsor forms are available at the
Jewish Community Center, the
Jewish Federation and day schools
and congregational schools in
Houston.
The "Walk for Israel" is being
organized by the Bureau of Jewish
Education of the Jewish Federation
of Greater Houston, the B'nai B'rith
Hillel Foundation and the JCC.
For information on the "Walk for
Israel", call the BJE, 729-7000, or
