to Steven W. Kutra, City Clerk.
Citizens are reminded that, in
order to vote at the May 6 elec-
tion, they must be registered vot-
ers as of Thursday, April 6, 1989
(30 days before the election). In
order to vote in a municipal elec-
tion, an individual must be (1) 18
years of age or older on election
day, (2) a citizen of the United
States, (3) not disqualified as
mentally incompetent, (4) not dis-
qualified as a convicted felon, (S)
a resident of the City on election
day, and (6) a registered voter on
election day.
The procedure for registering is
fairly straightforward. Voter reg-
istration applications are avail-
able at city hall and possibly other
locations around Sealy or from
the voter registrar at the Austin
County courthouse. The applica-
tion calls for the individual’s full
name, sex, date of birth, place of
birth, county and address of
former residence, permanent resi-
dence address, mailing address,
social security number, telephone
number (optional), precinct
number (if known), and signa-
ture. Applications may be mailed
to the voter registrar postage free.

Blood Center Doing
Cholesterol Screening
The Gulf Coast Regional Blood
Center has begun a program of
cholesterol testing for eligible vol-
unteer blood donors each time a
complete donation is made
through The Center. The
program, which started Novem-
ber 1, 1988 is part of The Blood
Center’s emphasis on wellness
and preventive care.
"We are very interested in the
continuing health of those who
have made a commitment to the

region!’ said Bill Teague, Blood
Austin County appraiser Allen
McKinley outlined some of the
problems within the Austin
County Appraisal district at a
meeting in his offices in Bellville
Thursday morning. He said tax
statements were late this year and
many were for small amounts.
"A 10 cent tax bill with a 25 cent
stamp makes the taxpayer feel we
are wasting money,’ McKinley
added He said that those prob-
lems would be corrected along
with an effort to consolidate some
tax statement mailings.
Appraisal District board chair-
man, Jim Hill, commended
McKinley for his efforts to return
some of the funds which was a
tribute to him and his insistence
on "running the district in a con-
cerned manner!’
Sealy school superintendent,
Tom Golson, appreciated the tax
appraiser’s help on a problem and
urged the district to keep a close
tab on the valuations to keep them
