By E. A. SHEPPERD
The general public has realised for many years the need of certain
regulations concerning real estate sales. Realtors also have discussed
means of protecting buyers and sellers of real estate against unfan prac-
tice among certain unscrupulous operators. Out of such a publie demand
backed up by reputable relators in the state there wi"! be offered for
passage at the neat session of the legislature a license law that would not
only protect the public but legitimate realtors as well The object in suer,
a law is to promote honest and fair dealings in the handling of real
estate.
The one outstanding objection to the creation of a real estate com-
mission would be the expense of its operation but the license law will
create enough fees from the realtors themselves to more than finance
i its operation The annual fees as proposed will be *10 for a real estat*
' dealer and (3 for salesmen
Another objection to such a law has oeen the fact that it would
eliminate the small real esate dealer, but since the fee as proposed
is small and the real estate dealer themstves propose to pay the cost,
these two objections have been eliminated
The need for such a license law is obvious. The citizens of Texas
need protection against the real estate chiseler who aiways has a red
hot prospect for a sale and plants a subtle bid for a commission with
