Casings
How can you afford to buy a cheap casing when you can buy
a United States casing at following prices:
As long as most of us are going to be prodigal with our incomes
—buying more than we can pay for—and not producing our
share we are creating a demand greater than the supply, at
that rate prices will continue to go up and stay up.
By living within our means—buying carefully, practicing econ- '
omy and increasing our production we can create a supply equal
to the demand and prices are certain to come down.
You can win the strike against the H. C. L. on hats by having
your old ones cleaned and blocked and save the price of a new
one. We make and sell new hats. Made in Galveston.

GOLD MINE STRIKE ENDS.
By Associated Press.
Johannesburg, Union of South Africa,
March 3.—The strike among the native
workers in the crown gold mines in the
Rand, which has been in progress for
some time, has been settled.
All small factories and other indus-
tries operating in the federal district
. embraced in the state of Mexico will be
exempt from taxation in the future, ac-
cording to advices received from Mex-
ico City this morning by Meade Fierro,
Mexican consul. A new ruling to this
effect was issued yesterday by the gov-
ernor of the federal district. The size
of the operating capital of any factory
or industry was not mentioned in the
dispatch, the advice merely stating that
small industries would be exempt from
taxes of any kind. It is the opinion
of officials of the department of com-
merce that this action on the part of
the district governor will be a means
of encouraging small capital from the
United States and South American
countries to locate in Mexico.
It was also announced this morning
that instructions had been issued to all
commanding’ generals of the federal

army in all states in the southern re-
public to inaugurate a nationwide cam-
paign against bandits that are still
operating in several sections of the
country. Special instructions, as well
as additional troops, have been sent to
Gen. Manuel Dieguez, in command of
federal troops in northern Mexico, to
effect the capture of Villa as speedily
as possible. It is the desire of the gov-
ernment to try and rid the country of
all banditry before the presidential
election to be held in June this year, ac-
cording to the advice.
Official confirmation of the capture
of Cirilo Arenas, the notorious bandit,
several days ago, has been received
here. The state of Puebla and Tlax-
cala are now free of bandits, which fact
is the cause of much rejoicing among
the agricultural and mining concerns
in these states.

committee memb r in the drive for ad-
ditional membership, according to an
announcement made this morning by
I. D. McMaster, assistant secretary.
This report was sent in to headquarters
this morning and contained the names
of nine members both old and new, to-
gether with the monthly dues of each
It was discovered that this increase had
been made following a checking of the
report. Mr. McMaster stated that addi-
tional reports were expected from other
members of working committees today
and that from unofficial reports the
progress of the drive was all that could
be expected.
All committeemen have been re-
board meeting. In addition to the re-
ports from canvassing committees it is
also probable that a large amount of
routine business will also come before
the meeting.
