companionship, a place to exercise,
to play games, visit and eat.
We need volunteers also. If you
want the Center to continue having
a place to eat, meet and greet we
need your help. If we all work
together to have a pleasant place to
do these things we need your help.
So pick the days you want to help,
look at our monthly menu and vol-
unteer those days when you come to
eat. Remember this Center must
have your help if it is to continue
having a place to do these things.
During the month of January,
Edith Hood and I will start calling
some of you members to see if you
have any suggestions about the
Center. The class will be a random
survey so if you weren’t called and
wish to give your input, call Ruth or
Mary Ann and voice your concern.
Thanks to everyone who made the
Christmas party extra special.
If absence makes the heart grow
fonder, think how many people love
their church. Is your heart fond of
the Rainbow Center? Where have
you been?
Now you have a Happy New Year
and I’ll see you at the Center.

you will be doing this new year. It is
going to be a great New Year. We
are going to build our “Dream
Home” this year of 1996. We
must/will think positive. We can
move mountains, so keep us in all
your prayers.
I will tell you of the coming
events we hope to have in 1996.
February 27, the Rainbow Center
hopes to have a Mexican Dinner, we
will have our barbecue again this
year on May 25. We plan to make
this picnic an annual event. I will let
you know other things we will have
inbetween the dates.
I want to repeat something I said
some time ago about the meals at
the Center. Our meals are made up
by a regular meal. Our cook does
not add salt to any of the food
preparations. Salt is available on the
table to those that do use salt. The
amount of food that is placed on
each plate is the amount the Center
is required to serve. Remember, we
at the Center try to please. That is
hard sometimes so bear with us and
consider what we are trying to do;
have a place to meet and greet, have
There was a lot of food at the
Centers Christmas Party.
Everyone at the Rainbow Center
joined in caroling and we had a
great Santa Claus. If you didn’t rec-
ognize him ask me and I’ll tell you
who he was? The music players
were Marvin Harthcock and Jan
Kuebel. Shirley Rowland and Alice
O’Grady led the singing. The food
was mouth-watering, scrumptious,
delicious, tasty, appetizing and just
plain god. We had a beautiful
Christmas tree that was donated by
Target Stores on DeZavalla.
Our Christmas Shoppe was a
huge success also. Our volunteers
did a beautiful job on making the
items and the display was attractive.
Every one did a great job.
Ruth Shell, our Executive
Director, says we already have
$26,000 in our building fund. A lot
of the money was collected by hav-
ing, barbecues, cake sales, booths,
gift shop, Christmas Shoppe, greet-
ing card sales and other efforts by
our volunteers.

“They” keep complaining about
etail sales dropping down so much
from last year. I don’t know about
anyone else, but I can tell you why I
don’t shop in retail/department sores
any more than I have to.
I have been shopping by catalogs
from the first of this year - save state
tax - mailing charges usually are not
nearly as high.
I love shopping with Metropolitan
Art Museum, Monticello Museum,
Biltmore Estate, Tasha Tudor’s art
work with Jenny Wren Press,
Winterthur Museum and Past Times
from UK.
I shop at antique shops, craft
booths at county fairs/bazaars,
church-sponsored craft shows, and
discount stores. So why not start
your Christmas shopping right after
Christmas. You’re bound to find
some great bargains and they’ll
please some people for sure.
