Twirling Contest
Joyce Gillis head Golddigger at
Texas Western won the open baton
twirling championship at the first
annual downtown El Paso Twirling
Fiesta.
The twirling contest, a feature
of the Downtown Day celebrations
drew large crowds. The contest
was held last Friday and Saturday
in San Jacinto Plaza.

threat is not the worst that these
stairs offer. The real reason that
all of the steps on campus should
be adequately lighted is for the
benefit of those people who at-
tend night classes. The stairs on
campus are hard enough to climb
in the day time, when a person can
see them; therefore, they are prac-
tically impossible to climb at night,
when he can’t see them at all!
I have a personal interest in see-
ing that our campus has well light-
ed stairs. My mother has night

Words To Songs
A story on TWC ex-student Al-
an Friedman which appeared in
the Prospector November 12 failed
to include Mrs. Charlsa Guynes
Suddarth of El Paso who wrote
the words to many of Mr. Fried-
man’s compositions.
Among the songs are “Why Not
Me,” sung by Debbie Reynolds,
"Two Loves by the Sea.” “Who Am
I” and “Time Stood Still.” Mrs.
Suddarth is a member of Gam-
ma Gamma chapter of Zeta Tau Al-
pha. Her sister, Mrs. Pat Ad-
kins, is an instructor in the Speech
and Drama Department at TWC..
Phi Omega, Alpha Sigma Mu, Bap-
tist Student Union, Chi Omega,
Delta Chi, Delta Delta Delta, Kap-
pa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha,
Newman Club, Phi Kappa Tau,
Phrateres International, Sigma Al-
pho Epsilon, Wesley Foundation,
and Zeta Tau Alpha.
The groups will compete for
four trophies to be awarded to
the best women’s men’s and mixed
chorus and best ensemble.
The Modern Dance Club will en-
tertain.
To the Editor:
Since I’m not a constructor, I
don't know much about building
stairs. But because I am a full-time
student at TWC. I do know some-
thing about walking!
I would like to put in my two
cents about the atrocious steps on
our campus. Among the students’
stairway-peeves are those behind
the Science Building and any oth-
ers like them on campus. They are
I’ll admit, picturesque. But the fact
remains that they are also very
hard to climb and descend. Could-

ward of 5,500 graduate fellow-
ships over a 4-year period.
Its purpose is to encourage stu-
dents to prepare for college and
university teaching and to
strengthen and extend facilities for
graduate training of college and
| university teachers.
For further information regard-
ing these Fellowships, students are
advised to contact Dr. Ray Past
in the SUB.

The TWC Music Department
hosted a coffee-conference-demon-,
stration on church music last Wed-
nesday in the SUB.
Ministers from the El Paso area
attended the meeting, which was
opened by TWC president, Dr. Jos-
eph Ray, and Dr. E. A. Thormods-
gaard, chairman of the Music De-
partment.
Dr. Thormodsgaard outlined the
college’s plans for training church
music leaders. 'The program was
initiated this fall for presentation
of church music subjects leading
to a major or minor degree in mu-
sic at TWC.
