After splitting its games in the pool play part of
the Frisco Classic the Hebron boys basketball team
lost a tough game to North Lamar 41-36 in the third
place game of the tournament on Saturday.
“It was a boxing match,” said coach Mark Bishop
whose team opens play in the Wylie Tournament
today. “They played good solid defense and made it
hard for us to get the ball to our people when they
were open.”
Bishop said North Lamar beat the Hawks on the
boards and that was a key to the game. North
Lamar used a solid defensive strategy and held the
Hawks in check when it needed too.
The Hawks (3-6) cut the lead to 35-30, then
forced three turnovers, but on each possession they
couldn’t score to get things closer. Darius Harper
led the Hawks with 16 points. Just four other
Hebron players scored in the game.
On Friday, Hebron played a pair of games in pool
play action. They defeated North Dallas 66-59 and
lost to Mesquite Poteet 59-54.
Against Poteet the Hawks hung with the Pirates
all the way. Poteet led 29-27 at halftime, then added
to the lead with a 15-14 run in the third quarter.
But the Pirates finished things off in the fourth
quarter at the free throw line hitting seven of nine
shots.

Lady Cougars ready
for district opener
against Lewisville
By RICKY MOORE

When Derrick Osborne found his Lady
Cougars would be opening District 6-5A play
against arch-rival Lewisville he planned ahead.
While making out his schedule, Osborne left
the weekend before the Lewisville game open
purposely to make sure his team was ready for
district play. In less than a week, Osborne will
know if his plan was successful,
The Colony opens district play hosting the
Farmers on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Colony
has playoff aspirations and Osborne feels that
getting off to the right start against Lewisville,
another possible playoff contender, is impor-
tant.
“It’s a huge game for us,” he said. “We need
to get off to a good start. That’s one of the rea-
sons we kept the weekend before the game
open.”
Osborne is concerned about Lewisville’s up
and down season. Senior guard Kris May-
Richardson, whom he said was one of the best
players in the district, is someone the Lady
Cougars will have guard closely.
“They have had a strange season,” Osborne
said. “It all depends on what team shows up.

The Colony used a strong defensive effort as the
Lady Cougars defeated Frisco 52-36 in a non-district
game at Frisco High School on Tuesday night.
The Lady Cougars trailed 25-17 at halftime, then
turned on their defense to spark the offense. After
trading a pair of baskets The Colony went on a 31-6
run to end the game. During the run Frisco’s lone
points came on six free throws.
‘We started getting hand in there faces and deny-
ing shots,” coach Derrick Osborne said. He also
praised the play of his inside players including
Tamesha Graves, Shannon Stueber, Kristen Holy,
Jessica Walter and Jessica Cole. They dominated
the boards and kept the Lady Coons from getting
second shot chances.
Graves led the Lady Cougars with 27 points,
while Stueber added 12 points.
Osborne said his team didn’t play well offensive-
ly in the second quarter as Frisco went on a 10-4
run to extend a 15-13 first quarter lead.
‘We played pretty well defensively in the second
quarter,” Osborne said. ‘We played good defense
all night. It just took a while for the offense to
