After getting off to a slow
start at the 52nd Annual
Sandra Meadows SWAAU
tournament, The Colony
Lady Cougars reeled off two
wins to reach the consola-
tion semifinals Saturday
morning.
Then, the Lady Cougars
fell to Keller Fossil Ridge,
67-63, in overtime, despite a
37-point effort from all-tour-
nament performer Shannon
Stueber. Stueber finished
the tournament with 93
points.
“We played really well
against Fossil Ridge and
Plano East,” The Colony
coach Derrick Osborne
said. “I think that’s the best
we have played this season
over the course of three
games.”
Against Fossil Ridge, the
Lady Cougars jumped out to
a 23-14 lead after one period,
then watched as the Lady
Panthers went on a 21-13
run to cut the lead to 36-35
at halftime.
The teams traded leads in
the second half, with The
Colony dominating the third
quarter and Fossil Ridge
playing better in the fourth.
In overtime, the Lady
Panthers outscored The
Colony 7-3.

After a year’s hiatus, the
Cougar Holiday Classic
returned over the weekend.
But The Colony Cougars
weren’t able to defend their
title.
Instead, Keller posted a 62-
52 win over Garland to claim
the crown in a smaller ver-
sion of what is usually an
eight-team field. The four-
team field meant fans were
treated to just four games
this year, two each on Friday
and Saturday.
Unfortunately for Cougars
fans, The Colony was not able
to win either of its game. The
Cougars fell to Garland, 57-
51, in the semifinals on
Friday and dropped 67-58
game to Dallas Bishop Lynch
on Saturday night in the con-
solation finals.
The losses dropped the
Cougars to 2-14 this season.

conference part of its slate.

The third time wasn’t the
charm for Hebron, as the
Hawks lost to state-ranked
Lancaster for the third time this
season.
But the Hawks were able to
bounce back against Flower
Mound, defeating the Jaguars
52-48 to take third place in the
Plano Wildcat Dr Pepper
Classic during the weekend.
David Farmer led the way for
the Hawks, scoring a team-high
15 points against the Jags.
Darius Harper and Scott Weaver
each added 10 points.

one period and expanded the
lead to 26-21 by halftime. The
Hawks then held off Flower
Mound in the second half to
claim third place.
In the semifinals, Lancaster,
ranked fourth in the state in

for the Hawks, picking up the
win 60-50, thanks to a 21-10 sec-
ond-period run.
Harper led all scorers with 19
points, while Farmer tossed in
11 and Weaver added nine.

double figure scorers including
Lekheythan Malone (16 points),
