Mohrbacher’s ‘Missing Man’ awarded
On May 10, just outside Washington, D.C. Mathew
Mohrbacher of The Colony was honored for his award-win-
ning art project titled, ‘The Missing Man,’ by the Sempercomm
Foundation, a Marine organization, at its third annual gala at
the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Woodbridge, Va.
Mohrbacher, pictured second from the right, was congratulat-
ed by Gen. Robert Magnus, assistant commandant and four-
star general of the United States Marine Corps.
Mohrbacher’s winning artwork was afterward donated to the
Foundation, which supports the troops world-wide by supply-
ing them with entertainment and communication with their
families back home.

from basic combat train-
ing at Fort Jackson,
Columbia, S.C.

of training, the soldier
studied the Army mission,

bat skills, military
weapons, chemical war-
fare and bayonet training,
drill and ceremony,
marching, rifle marks-
manship, armed and
unarmed combat, map
reading, field tactics, mili-

tice system, basic first
aid, foot marches, and
field training exercises.
Hogan is the son of
Teresa Hogan of The
Colony.

ups are under way at The Colony
Public Library, 6800 Main St.
Free events and activities are
available to those who join this
year’s Texas Reading Club. The
entire family can join; the Library
offers a reading club for
preschool, grade school, teens,
and adults.
Beginning May 31, Read To
Me Club members may attend
free preschool storytimes at 10
a.m. Thursdays and Fridays; the
Read To Me finale will be held on
July 13.
A full schedule of free weekly
activities and performances
awaits Summer Reading Club
(SRC) members entering grades
first through fifth. Beginning
May 30, programs for SRC mem-
bers will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesdays; the grand finale
will be July 25. Children must
be registered in the Reading Club
to eligible to attend these free
events.
The Teen Read Club is for
youth entering grades six
through high school. After sign-
ing up for the club, teen readers
submit book slips for each book
read; each book slip returned
will be entered in a drawing for
prizes. Book slips must be turned
in by July 25; the drawing will be
held on July 27.
Adults are encouraged to join
the Adult Summer Reading
Club and to read along with
their children. The Library is full
of books, audiocassettes, books
on tape, playaways, book CDs,
music CDs, as well as movie
videos and DVDs.
