Ugandan choir takes center stage at Trinity
FROM STAFF REPORTS
Trinity Presbyterian Church in The
Colony played host to the Watoto Uganda
Children’s Choir on Sunday, a traveling
Christian choir from the central African
country that is on a tour of the United States.
The choir was made up of 18 singers
ranging in age from 6 to 13 years old, who
must audition for their spots and the oppor-
tunity to travel abroad and represent their
homeland.
The church was attracted to the group
because of the yearly mission to Uganda that
its members take, said Janet Ohlig, a church
member. That relationship makes all things
involving Uganda interesting to the church.
Ohlig said church members keep Uganda in
their hearts.
“When it comes to Uganda, we’re all
about it,” she said.
Ohlig said the choir “raises awareness of
Uganda’s needs and allows the children to ,
see the West.”
The Watoto Children’s choir per-
formed at Trinity Presbyterian
Church Sunday night. The group
is on a six-month tour of Western
nations to raise awareness for
the plight of their homeland,
Uganda, which has been racked
by a twin crisis of AIDS and civil
war.
