for an estimate of 10,279,300. This increase followed a revised
gain of 25,200 jobs in May and continued a total employment count
above the ten-million level, which was reached May 2006. Eight of
the eleven major industries added jobs over the month including all
of the major industries in the Goods Producing sector: Mining,
Construction, and Manufacturing. A total of 213,500 jobs have been
added to Total Nonagricultural Employment in Texas since June 2006,
for an annual growth rate of 2.1 percent.

Having remained unchanged in May, Leisure and Hospitality
employment gained 3,800 jobs in June. This was the eleventh month
of payroll expansion in the last 12 months. The annual growth rate
dropped from 4.1 percent in May to 3.9 percent in June, an increase of
37,100 positions since June 2006. The annual growth rate has been as
high as 5.3 percent in December 2006, levels unseen since the late
1990s. The Leisure and Hospitality industry includes hotels and
motels along with restaurants and amusement and theme parks. Golf
courses, country clubs and bowling centers are also listed in this
major industry.
Employment in Construction grew by 3,400 jobs in June, the first
increase in three months. This industry has averaged payroll additions
of 1,850 jobs per month so far in 2007. The annual growth rate has
remained in positive territory for over two years and registered a rate
of 3.4 percent in June. A total of 20,900 jobs were added in Construction

Manufacturing employment grew by 1,900 jobs in June following a
May gain of 2,600 positions. Since the beginning of the year, this
industry has increased by 2,800 jobs. The annual growth rate stayed
in positive territory at 0.2 percent for June. A total of 1,800 jobs have
been added in Manufacturing since June 2006.
Employment in Education and Health Services increased by 1,300
positions in June, following a gain of 5,200 jobs in May. This was the
fifth consecutive month of payroll expansion. The annual growth
rate was 2.1 percent in June, bringing the number of positions added
in this industry to 25,600 jobs since June 2006.
Financial Activities employment gained 1,100 jobs in June after adding
700 positions in May. Since January, 6,300 jobs were created in this
industry. The annual growth rate dipped minimally from 1.9 percent
in May to 1.7 percent in June. Financial Activities expanded by 10,900
jobs since June 2006.
Government employment increased by 800 jobs in June, following a
substantial gain of 6,200 jobs in May. The annual growth rate dropped
slightly from 2.0 percent in May to 1.8 percent in June, bringing the
total number of jobs created in Government since June 2006 to 30,400.
Mining employment increased for the second consecutive month,
adding 600 jobs in June. Only one monthly employment decrease has
been recorded in Mining in 2007. The annual growth rate dropped
from 10.5 percent in May to 9.2 percent in June, bringing the total
number of jobs gained in this industry to 17,000 since June 2006.
Following a gain of 400 jobs in May, Other Services employment
displayed a small increase of 100 jobs in June. This marked the third
consecutive month of employment growth. The annual growth rate
was 0.6 percent, a drop of one-tenth of a percentage point since May.
This industry gained 2,100 positions since June 2006.
Employment in Information remained unchanged in June following
an increase of 1,500 positions in May. The annual growth rate also
remained constant in June, a decrease of 2,000 jobs since June 2006.
Some of the businesses that make up this major industry are wired
telecommunications carriers, and cellular and other wireless carriers
along with cable and other subscription programming, and internet
service providers. Newspaper publishers, software publishers and
