ahead of schedule.
Jack Baker, director of auxiliary ser-
vices, said the Union’s expansion is
moving “very slowly,” and predicted
that it would be completed “sometime
in August."
At that time, renovation of the
cafeteria will begin, and the Post Office
will be moved.
On the other side of campus, the
Business Administration Building is
moving ahead of schedule, said Lola
Dawkins, chairperson of the building’s
committee. Dawkins said the contractor
may be finished by mid-November and
the building may be occupied as early as
Spring 1982.

During the first summer meeting, the
Student Association Council heard a
report on a joint effort of Student Af-
fairs and the Student Association to set
up committees that will be concerned
with students’ needs.
Don Paulson, director of counsel-
ing, told the council that four new Stu-
dent Affairs standing committees will
work this summer to initiate programs
for the fall. These
committees will
supplement the two
existing ones.
Saying that Dean

sidered the Student
Association to be
“a regular office of
Student Affairs,”
Paulson explained
to the council
members that stu-
dent positions are
available on the
committees.
The committees

for the office of executive assistant to
the president. Darryl Williams’ ap-
pointment, which pays $140 per
month, was approved unanimously by
council. Williams served as chairman
of the election commission and is presi-
dent of Alpha Phi Omega.

And as part of the long-range stu-
dent development program, Paulson
said that several task forces also will be
organized to examine activities, leader-
ship, health, commuter students, con-
sumer services, learning, and career
development.
Paulson also told the student leaders
that it is possible that UT El Paso
students will be forming “development
transcripts,’’ that will include their
participation in organizations, honors
and awards, and a portfolio.
The director of counseling services
said that this new student developmen-
tal transcript would allow students to
“brag without bragging.” _________
as “personal reasons.”
At this point, Legarreta explained,
“I’ve given one year of service to the
University. 1 thought 1 should reset my
priorities and I have.” However,
Legarreta will continue serving as
mascot Paydirt Pete next year.
The other person declining a seat is
Sandi Wong, a senior metallurgical
engineering major. Wong was out of
town and unavailable for comment.
The persons receiving the next
highest number of votes in the spring
elections will replace Legarreta and
Wong. Roy Torres, a junior
philosophy major, and Bonnie
Escobar, a sophomore criminal justice
major, will be offered the seats.
