Swiss trip dies slow death at
recent Association meeting
By Jaml Barksdale
Staff Writer
After being tabled for the third time, a bill to
send the Jazz Lab band to Switzerland died at a
Student Association Senate meeting
The Jazz Lab band requested $250 for the trip
this summer. During the past three senate
meetings, senators raised procedural questions
on whether the band was a registered student
organization and if the senate should spend the
new senate's money.
Kenny Tarango, vice president of Internal at
fairs, said he didn't think there was a represen-
tative from the band at any of the meetings
He said he thought the bill could still be resub-
mitted.
He added that the senate could not allocate
funds until June, but if it did pass the bill. It would
be honored in the summer
Dave Galyon, vice president of external affairs,
conducted the half-hour long meeting Feb. 23
substituting for Tarango Tarango and Lynn Brad-
shaw. president, were attending the Student Ser-
vice Fees Allocations Advisory committee
meeting.
Galyon announced on behalf of Bradshaw that
$390 from the special projects fund were spent on
1,500 buttons for the 1984 election.
The senate passed a bill to allocate $232.38 to
12 members of the LIT El Paso Pre Law Associa-
tion for their state convention April 13-15 In Austin.
Also, the senate approved a resolution to
establish the 1-10 Gift of Life Rivalry
According to the resolution, authored by
Galyon, an annual competition between New Mex-
ico State University and UT El Paso would be
established during blood drives for United Blood
Services The Services will provide a traveling
trophy for the university which collects the most
