Boerne PD
reorganizes
With the assumption of Public
Safety/Utilities Central Communica-
tion responsibility for Boerne, Fair
Oaks Ranch and Kendall County, the
Boerne Police Department was reor-
ganized Oct. 1.
William ‘Bill’ Beasley has been
hired as the communications manag-
er, and Sgt. James Kohler has been
promoted to a newly created lieu-
tenant position. Kohler has been with
BPD for eight years, and was
assigned as a patrol sergeant. Kohler
will command the operations bureau
including patrol, criminal investiga-
tion and warrants.
Kohler has a degree in criminal jus-
tice from Southwest Texas State Uni-
versity and is a graduate of the Law
Enforcement Management Institute.
Kohler worked previously with the
Hays County Sheriff Department.
Beasley is retired from the Plano
Police Department where he was the
administrative manager. He was in
charge of the centralized communi-
cation center for the city including
police, fire, EMS and other city
departments.
Beasley also worked with the Texas
Commission on Law Enforcement
' Officer Standards and Education as a
police instructor. He began his law
enforcement career with the Ker-
rville Police Department.
Beasley will report to Lt. Ron Mar-
quis, a 15-year veteran with BPD,
who will . command the service
bureau including communication
section, property and evidence,
youth service unit which includes
D.A.R.E., school resource officer
and youth crimes investigator. Mar-
quis is also a graduate of Southwest
Texas State University.
Prior to this reorganization, BPD
included one lieutenant. The two
lieutenants, the highest ranking offi-
cer directly below the chief, will
report directly to the police chief.
“With the assumption of communi-
cation responsibilities for the the
entire county, I felt the duties for the
lieutenant had expanded to the point
where two people were required to
provide adequate supervision and
direction,” Chief Gary Miller said.
