what mockery to think that the people

Lay Blame to Pilate.
"In the name of all great martyrs of
the world many of whom came from
my people why cannot we see that this
grander lesson of the man of sorrows
may be made to mean something in our
day. We have endured together the
baptism of fire on the battle fields of
France and now that the more romantic
though bloody < -ombnt is over let us still
side by side in mutual confidence and
understanding struggle to bring about
the noble ideals of i»eace and brother-
hood. They are our common heritage
no more mine than yours; no more
yours than mine then in sincere rever-
ence. in sacred duty of brotherhood we
ca t join in glad acclaim singing Ho-
sanna to the Highest that the earth may
be full of the knowledge of God as the
waters cover the seas that there may
he peace peace to those that are far
and those that are near that there may
be peace on earth good will unto men.
And in conclusion may I quote the
great Emil G. Hirsch; ‘Until the last
mists have cleared away every Jew will
and must protest that not his fathers
not the people not the teachers of Jeru-
salem. had condemned Jesus. For his
death none others must be held account-
able than Pilat-'. the typical Itoman
who was Roman cruelty incarnate and
Roman selfishness triumphant. The
Jews did not crucify Christ.’ ”

Street Markers.
That women ar. being employed in
an effort to get signatures agreeing to
street markers bearing advertisements
was diacloaed Tuesday when telephone
calls came into the San Antonio cham-

The marker is said not to bear any ad-
vertising matter and unless the citizen
asks specifically whether or not such
advertising matter is to be placed on
th* sign he is left in ignorance. If he
declines to sign the paper the chamber
was informal he is told that the mark-
ers arc to be placed anyhow.
The chamber of commerce already has
filed an injunction suit seeking to re-
strain the placing of these street mark-

contained thereon is detrimental to the
looks of the streets. This suit ifc ex-
pected to come un at the regular Oc-
tober term of court.
