Sergeant in Africa-Now Isn’t This So’thin -
Tells Us in Lyric That He Can't Tell Us Nothing

Censorship rules inspired Sgt.
Iguce B. Parks, on duty in North
Africa, to lyric efforts in a recent
letter to his former civilian boss,
Charles McLellan, service depart-
ment foreman at the Shelton-Webb
Motor company.
Sergeant Parks is the son of Mr
and Mrs. W. H. Parks, ranch people
living near Baird, and a brother,
Bob, is employed by Shelton-Webb.
His poetic missive follows:
Dear Mac: .
Can't write a thing; the censor's
. to blame.
“Just say I'm well and sign my
name. *
Can’t tell where we sailed from,
Can't mention the date.
Can't even number the meals that
we ate. .
Can't say where we’re going or
when we'll land.
Couldn't inform you U met by a
band.
Can t mention weather, can't any
it there's rain-
All military secrets must secrets
remain.
Can't have flashlights to guide me
at night.
Can't smoke a cigaret except out
of sight.
Can't have a diary, lor it’s agin
the law.
Can't keep the envelopes my let-
ters come in.
Can't say for sure, folks. Just what
I can write. .
So I'll call this a letter, and with
sweet dreams,
Good Night.
