PEIPING, Nov. 6. (—The Chi-
nese government reported Satur-
day It had backed out gains to the
north, west and south and enlarged
its north China Peiping - Tientsin
island, which is entirely surrounded
by Communists.
The government report cease as
American authorities moved to
evacuate 1,000 American depend-
ents from Nanking. Shanghai,
Tientsin and Peiping. The Ameri-
cans fear an outbreak of fighting
in the major national cities may
cut off escape for the U. 4. eith

A military spokesman said gov-
ernment troops, fighting to reopen
the railway between Peiping and
Inner Mongolia, had recaptured the
railroad city of Yangkao, 150 miles
west of Peiping. 6
2,760 Handicapped
Are Placed in Jobs
AUSTIN, Nov. s. un. The Texas]
Employment Commission reported
Saturday that it put 2,760 handicap
pod persons in Jobs last month.
There had been 5,700 such per-
sons looking for jobs through the
commission on Oct. 1.
The commission said civic clubs.

have returned to work in defiance
of a Communist - led strike.
The Ministry of Industry and
Commerce said production Friday
in the Lorraine Basin was higher

tion. The strike never was com-
plete in that area. The smallest

in the north, which mines two-
thirds of France’s coal. The strike,
