HOLLYWOOD BEAUTY
Build Glamor on Cleanliness
Advises Actress Barbara Rush
By LYDIA LANE
HOLLYWOOD — Barbara Rush
has such a freshly scrubbed look
that if her face were not familiar
one would never take her for an
actress.
“Cleanliness is the baste of
beauty,” Barbara confided to me
recently. "I go overboard about It.
But certainly the most beautiful
dress in the world would fail to
impress if it were soiled and spot-
ted. And who cares about how
your hair is cut if it is oily and
needs a shampoo? Make-up is cer
tainly anything but glamor when
it is time for a change.
"In summer especially,’’ Bar-
bara continued, "one should be
sure to choose a cosmetic base
which will wear well in the heat.
And under no circumstances
should she put fresh make-up on
top of stale.
"Another thing I can not stand
to see is a girl rub a dirty old
powder puff over her nice clean
face. A puff is bound to collect all
sorts of oils and dust, but too often
you see girls who never seem to
think of changing theirs.”
"What kind do you use?" I asked
Barbara.
‘‘I like cotton, then I am sure it
is clean and I never have any trou-
ble with my skin. It has not been
proven that acne comes from a
germ but I’m sure you can get
secondary infections from A soiled
puff.
"And while we are on the subject
of cleanliness,” Barbara confided.
“I think it’s shocking to ses a nice

EASY FORMULA FOR GLAMOR
—Barbara Rush, co-star of Uni-
versal - International’s "Magnifi-
cent Obsession,” places cleanli-
ness as the foundation for glamor.
She suggests an easy-to-follow
formula for building this founda-
tion.
clean girl use a dirty comb or
brush. It’s terrible for your hair.
You should get into the habit of
giving your brush and comb a bath
every time you shampoo your hair
and more often if necessary.
Cleanliness is just a matter of
habit You can make rules for
yourself and abide by them. For
example, never wear a pair of
white gloves without washing
them. They may not be very soiled
but they can't have that 'just out
of the drawer' freshness
"And never put a drees away
without airing it and inspecting it
for spots,” she added.
"I find that men are attracted
to a girl who is clean and fresh,
especially in hot weather In a sub-
tle way she is indicating that if she
is this meticulous about her person
her house will be spotless, too.”
if you are eager to be more at-
tractive take Barbara Rush’s ad-
vice and build your glamor on a
foundation of cleanliness

Good Manners
Make Friends
It's a good idea for a young
man buying an engagement ring
to let his fiancee choose the set-

yellow gold to platinum or vice
versa she should be given a
chance to express the preference
After all, the will wear it for
the rest of her life.
