A 60-day public review
period during which time
interested people are being
asked to comment on the
direction they think future
U.S. Department of Agricul-
ture conservation programs
should take began January
28 and will end March 28. |
Four draft documents de-
scribing the Nation’s non- 3
federal soil and water
resources, their condition,
projected demands, and
seven proposed alternative
strategies can be reviewed
at the .local SCS & ASCS
offices in Goldthwaite.
Charles Studer, District
Conservationist, said the
proposals for a national soil
and water conservation
program were developed by
a coordinating committee
made up of members from
nine U.S. Department of
Agriculture agencies plus
the Office of Management
and Budget and the Council
on Environmental Quality, i
The process, mandated by
the Soil and Water Resourc-
es Conservation Act of 1977
(RCA), included considera-
tion of public input from
9,000 public meetings held
in the United States during
1978.
During the public review
period, three public meet- ,
ings will be held in Texas to
discuss the content of the 4
documents and provide an
opportunity for comments.
The meetings will be held in
Arlington on February 26;
Lubbock, March 4; and San
Antonio, March 6.
Interested citizens are in-
vited to send written com-
ments about the documents
or suggestions about future
conservation programs to
the RCA Response Analysis
Center, P. 0. Box 888,
Athens, Georgia 30603.
Anyone interested in re-
viewing the documents or
finding out more informa-
tion about upcoming RCA
meetings should contact
Charles Studer of the Soil
Conservation Service Office
(or Allen Mills of the
Agricultural Stabilization
and Conservation Service
staff). The office, or offices
will be open from 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday.
