Civic Corporation to Bid
Today on Old Airport Land
A corporation, formed Thursday
at a called meeting of the Cham-
ber of Commerce board of direc-
tors, will present a sealed bid
Friday morning at * a.m. in an
effort to buy the old Municipal
Airport east of town.
The group's representatives will
appear at the City Commission
meeting at 9 Friday when the
bids are opened in City Hall
A six-man trusteeship was
named to submit the bid They
worked out details of the bid Thurs-
day afternoon.
Trustees named were French
Robertson, president of the cham-
ber, C. E. Bentley, Jr., E. L.
Thornton, T. C. Campbell Jr,
Hudson Smart, and Morgan Jones,
Jr.
This setion was taken after Ma-
yor Ernest Grissom met with the
board to explain the city's need
of disposing of the old airport set rushed to obtain a charter tor the jtional School
funds realised from the airport’s
sale could he used to match fed-
eral funds for the new municipal
port.
Contract to build the new air-
port hoe been let by the City Com-
mission to H •. Zachary Company
of San Antonio.
The firm submitted a low bid
of $725,785.14 which the commis-
sioners accepted
City officials have pointed out
that the city needs to realise
$200,000 from the sale. The old
airport covers 409 acres.
If the corporation's bid is ac-
cepted, the airport will be dis-
posed of by the corporation for in-
dustrial and warehouse develop-
ment, Joe Cooley, manager of the
Chamber of Commerce, said Thurs-
day.
