Day Sy Check
“Do you get all mixed up” in financial
matters? IDon ‘t know how much you paid
or to whom—can’t tell how you’re coming
out at the end of the month — afraid of
having to pay bills twice — no order or
system — running here and there wasting
time and energy needlessly-a slave to the
“cash and worry” system.
Why not say goodbye to all that and pay
by check? Bring order out of chaos—be
* safe instead of sorry. Instead of running
I' around yourself—- order money - round
- by check. We invite you to open a check
ing account.

District News
W. H. Heartsill, Walnut
Springs, was elected Supervisor
for Zone IV of the Bosque Soil
Conservation District at a meet-
ing in Iredell Monday night.
More than fifty people were pres-
ent. Jack Lynch, Dublin, Texas,
represented the Texas State Soil
Conservation Board and discussed
the Soil Conservation District law
of Texas. Two sound motion pic-
ture films on conservation were
shown. Wilburn Phillips, Iredell,
acted as chairman of the election
and T. P. Owen, Iredell, served as
secretary. Two other Supervis-
ors of the Bosque District were
present — Charles Neblett, Jr.,
Stephenville who is Chairman of
the Board; and Will C. Hafer,
Clifton, who was recently elect-
ed to represent Zone V of the
District.
Heartsill is a graduate of Tex-
as A. & M. College, class of 1938.
He came to Walnut Springs that
summer . as Vocational Agricul-
ture Teacher in the High School
and is now in his eleventh year
in that position. He became a
District cooperator in 1944 and
has added two adjoining places to
his home place since then. He is
a firm believer in proper stocking
and deferred grazing for range
improvement, and his place has
responded well to these two prac-
tices.

STATE HEALTH OFFICER
SENDS XMAS MESSAGE
The editor of this paper has
just received a beautiful Christ-
mas card signed by Dr. Geo. W.
Cox, State Health Officer, carry-
ing the following- message to be
published for the citizens of
Texas:
“The Texas State Department
of Health is happy to report that
with your help the incidence of
communicable disease in Texas
has reached an all time low; also
people are living longer, on the
average, than at any time in the
past.
“Christmas is a proper time to
give thanks for the degree of
health we now enjoy. I want to
thank you for your assistance in
making this record possible, and
ask you to continue your efforts
to further public health in Texas.
“May you and all those you
hold dear have a very Merry
Christmas and a New Year of
Good Health. Sincerely yours,
Geo. W. Cox, M.D., State Health
Officer.”
On the front of the card is a
handsome picture of the new
State Health Department Build-
ing which was first occupied by
the Department in 1943, and on
which has just been completed a
fourth floor addition. Prior to
occupying this building, the en-
tire Health Department was hous-
ed on part of one floor of the old
Land Office Building.
Dr. Cox was re-appointed to his
7th consecutive two year term as
State Health Officer, by the State
Board of Health in December.
