Cooper is still chairman of the com-
nittee.
Judge Riddick announces that he
.vill submit his name to the State
Democratic Convention as a can-
didate for Associate Justice to fill
>ut Judge Mansfield's unexpired
term. This is right.
On hearing that Madeline Pol-
lard was engaged in writing an au-
tobiography the editor of the Rich-
mond State was so overcome with
emotion that.he declared that she
“autobiashamed of herself.”
Prof. Shinn ought to retire as
he failed to carry his home county
in the race for Superintendent of
Public Instruction. Prof. Jordan
carried it. Any candidate who can
not carry his home county should
quit the field and promptly too.
If all the wealth of the United
States were divided out today each
man would get about $1160 and in
less than six months some fellows |
would be riding in palace cars and j
others would be walking cross-ties I
and howling for another divy.—l

It is a noteworthy fact that the
Democratic members ot the House
whose votes were cast for silver in !
the two trials of strength which it:
has evoked in the present Congress j
are having no trouble over a nomi- 1
nation. And what is better they
will not be worried about re-elec- j
tion. |Springfield Democrat.
Little Rock is to have a grand
Inter-State competitive miltary
drill in July. Many States will
send their crack companies to com-
pete for the prizes. The flower of
the National militia will be in Lit-
tle Rock to compete for the cham-
pionship of the country and for the
large and attractive purses hung
up by the Little Rock Inter-State
Drill Association. The Washington
Evening Star in a recent issue
says: “It will be the greatest In-
ter-State military event that ever
took place in the United States.”
The Pine Bluff Press Eagle very
correctly objects to a Circuit Judge
(Judge Elliott) neglecting his duties
to look after his political fences. It
says: “The judiciary is supposed
to be high above such methods.
McClure and such radical republi-
can judges during the days of re-
construction set this kind of an ex-
ample but when democracy over
threw the republican dynast) in
this State such conduct was elimi-
nated and fudge Elliott is the first
circuit judge to make this innova-
tion. When a man once reaches
the bench it is supposed that his
position at once raises him from
the cauldron of politics but Judge
.Elliott has broken the record."
