We received a pleasant call this

that he is a Populist is a good
friend to the Tixarkanian.

Louis Norton the colored porter
at Mike Cassidy’s saloon was rath-
er badly “slashed” with a “razor"
in the hands of an infuriated ne-
gress last night. The origin of the
difficulty is not known but we sup-
pose as usual in such affairs the
“green eyed monster” must have
been at the bottom of the trouble.
Louis as a rule is a quiet and in-
offensive negro who has never
sought the reputation of being a
“bad nigger” or carrying a “raz
zer."
We acknowledge the pleasure of
a call this a. ra. from Messrs. J. T.
Kobers postmaster and Lewis
Stoan local agent for Cotton Belt

nomination are very encouraging.

having been in the employe of the

We call attention today to the
extensive advertisement of E. S.
Epler General agent for the Peo-
-1 les’ Building and Loan Association
of Bloomington 111. which appears
on the third page of this paper.
Mr. Epler claims that his Associa-
tion is superior in certain essential
I articulars to any other doing bus-
iness in this section and only asks
that our people who feel an inter-
est in Building and Loan business
investigate his plan and consider
the advantage thereof. He is a
clever gentleman and comes to us
’well recommended as a responsible
business man.
A NEW FIRM.
A business change has just been
consumated on the West side in
which Joseph Winter successor to
Sam Falk & Co. disposed of his ex-
tensive stock of jewelry watches
diamonds and jeweler's specialties
to the firm of Hecht & Rinskopf
composed of Sigmund Hecht of
Texarkana and 1. Rinskopf of St.
Louis Mo.
The senior member of the firm
Mr. Hecht is a well known and
highly esteemed young business
nan of the West side who during
he term of his residence in
our city has established
an enviable reputation
is an upright honest and reliable
msiness man. of courteous bearing
and irreproachable habits. lie will
have immediate control and man-
agement of the business which of
itself insures for it a successful fu-
ture.
The other member of the new
firm Mr. Rinskopf comes here
from St. Louis where he has been
ngaged in business for years past.
He bears an excellent character
both as a citizen and business man.
We predict for the new firm a gen-
erous share of public patronage
and that amount of success which
attends upon an honest and able ef-
fort in the business world.

“GET THERE AND STAY THERE.”
On this subject adorned with
masterly eloquence and filled to
the brim with force logic and ir-
resistible-humor the most noted
pulpit orator of the age Rev. Sam
Jones of Georgia held a critical
audience of Texarkana’s best peo-
ple “spell bound” for over an hour
at Ohio’s opera house last even-
ing.
The lecturer was introduced by
Rev. H. O. Moore of the Southern
Methodist Church who briefly
sketched in realistic words a few
< utlines of the public career of this
wonderful man who in one brief
decade has won his way to the
front rank of America’s famous
men and shines today one the
brightest stars in the constellation
of Christian workers who is in
every sense a gallant knight of
modern Christian warfare whose
1 inceis ever couched and blade
drawnto do battle for his cause.
The lecture was one of those
hings that to be appreciated
lust needs be heard and can-
lot adequately be described
lere descriptive utterances do not
convey one tithe of the magicial
force matchless eloquence or scin-
tilating wit which combine to ren-
der irresistible each appeal of the.
speaker to his audience whether
it creates laughter or conjures up
t ears. From first to last he holds
ihe attention of his hearers with a
master hand appealing at once to
the heads and hearts of his auditors
in such a manner as to command
-nterest while he arouses sympathy.
Few men of this or any other
;ge possess so large a share of that
mysterious mental and physical
force called “personalmagnetism”
is is exhibited by thisjnan in all he
;ays and does. His power over the
public mind may be illustrated by
the almost magicial influence he
wields over an individual. From
laughter to tearsis a narrow bridge
over which he leads his hearers at
will. During the eighty minutes of
his discourse last evening scarce
a member of the audience moved
and not one left the hall the en-
tire audience remaining wrapt in
deep interest and unbroken atten-
tion.

Deafness Cannot be Cured
By local applications as they can
not reach the diseased portion of
the ear. There is only one way to
cure deafness and that is by con-
stitutional remedies. Deafness is
caused by an inflamed condition of
the mucous lining of the Eustachian
f übe. When this tube gets inflam-
ed you have a rumbling sound or
imperfect hearing and when it is
entirely closed deafness is the re-
sult; and unless the inflammation
can be taken out and this tube re-
stored to its normal condition hear-
ing will be destroyed forever. Nine
c ases out of ten are caused by ca-
-1 arrh which is nothing but an in-
flamed condition of the mucous sur-
faces.
We will give one hundred dollars
for any case of deafness (caused by
catarrh) that cannot be cured by
